Thousands thronged the forecourt of the State House in Accra today to bid farewell to the late dancehall artiste, Pricilla Opoku-Kwarteng, known in music circles as Ebony Reigns.

The funeral which was attended by colleagues, fans and sympathizers started with a traditional music and dance performance from the Amamre Ensemble. They performed Akan traditional music and dances, ranging from kete, adowa to fontomfrom.

Students of Ebony’s alma mater, Mamfe Methodist High School, also did a rendition of Ebony’s popular songs with the brass band.

The family, clergy, management and Musicians Union took turns to pay tribute to the dancehall diva.

In his speech, the manager of Ebony, Ricky Nana Agyeman aka Bullet, said contrary to popular belief, Ebony was a committed Christian who occasionally had prayer sessions with prophets and Christian leaders.

“Contrary to the reports widely circulated and the unfounded perception that Ebony was untrained and from a nonreligious background, Ebony was the exact opposite. Ebony was a Christian and indeed worshiped anytime she had the opportunity at the Golden Centre church in Madina.

“She was prayerful and had prayer sessions with a number of pastors, prophets and Christian leaders. Ebony was kind, respectful and a philanthropist. She occasionally went to orphanages to donate.”

The President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bice Osei Kuffour, known widely as Obuor, said Ebony lived a fulfilling life, brightening her corner.

The officiating minister, Dr. Lawrence Tetteh of the World Outreach Ministries, in his sermon, said celebrities who have not given their lives to God were not being wise.

“If you are a celebrity and you don’t know God, you are a fool,” he intimated.

He also advised people in the showbiz industry to give their lives to Jesus Christ, stating that the people that hail them are the same people who will bring them down. But if they abide in God, they will be saved even in bad times.

In attendance were the Chief of Staff, Frema Osei Opare, the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party, Sammy Awuku, Kofi Adjorlolo, Maame Dokono, Akosua Agyapong, Rex Omar, Stonebwoy and Gyadu-Blay Ambulley.

Others were the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Catherine Afeku, former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Nicholas Omane Acheampong, Amakye Dede and Akosua Agyepong.

Ebony died on February 8 in an accident while returning from Sunyani.

She is known for hit songs like ‘Kupe,’ ‘Poison,’ ‘Date Ur Fada,’ ‘Hustle’, ‘Maame Hwe’ and ‘Aseda’.

The Ghana Health Service says it has begun investigations to ascertain the identity of the mortuary attendant allegedly seen fondling the bodies of late dancehall artiste Ebony Reigns and her friend Franky Kuri in a video.

There was widespread contempt from Ghanaians over the week after the video, reportedly capturing a mortuary attendant touching and examining the badly injured bodies of the pair, leaked on social media.

A statement from the Ghana Health Service and signed by its Director-General, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare condemned the alleged act and added that the investigation will among other things try to establish whether the incident occurred at a mortuary facility belonging to the service.

[contextly_sidebar id=”V1mGcx2I57CvWmwoR5UQrLoBropPGoGK”]“The attention of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has been drawn to publications/broadcast by the print and electronic media on a leaked video of an ‘unidentified’ mortuary attendant/staff fondling corpses alleged to be that of Miss Ebony Reigns and her friend who were recently involved in a fatal road traffic accident.”

“The GHS has initiated investigations to ascertain the identity of the alleged mortuary man and also to confirm whether the incident occurred in a mortuary facility belonging to the Service,” the statement added.

It went on further to assure Ghanaians that “it upholds the dignity and rights of our patients and will therefore not countenance such unethical conduct if it is established that the alleged mortuary attendant is a staff of the service.”

Ebony and Franky, along with one other person, died on Thursday February 8, 2018 on the Sunyani-Kumasi road in a gory car accident.

Her funeral has been set for March 17, 2018 and will be held at the Black Star Square in Accra.

We’ll deal with Ebony’s ‘mortuary man’ after funeral

Meanwhile, Ebony’s manager Ricky Nana Agyemang aka Bullet had expressed disgust over the act and described it as appalling.

He had also promised that they would deal with the matter after the funeral scheduled for 17th March, 2018.

“It is very bad. We need to give respect to the dead. We’ll surely take up the matter after her funeral and make sure whoever took those videos is punished,” he told Sammy Flex.

The heap of sand said to have played a part in the fatal car crash that killed the 20-year-old singer, Ebony Reigns, has been cleared by some residents of Nyamebekyere, near Mankraso in the Ahafo Ano South District of the Ashanti Region.

Ahafo Ano South District Chief Executive, Joseph Agemang Dapaah, confirmed this to Citi News, saying that particular area between Nyamebekyere and Nsuta had seen multiple car crashes.

[contextly_sidebar id=”pYsHoTIed7LQUBer0fhgzlhnKebNflyz”]Mr. Dapaah said the sand had been deposited there sometime in December 2017 for some roadworks.

“It was deposited around the Christmas, but they are using it so from time to time, they deposit more. For the contractor that was working on the road, the contract was given maybe in Accra or Kumasi and nobody informed me about it.”

“…but now they have removed the sand from the roadside – some volunteers from a nearby town called Nyamebekyere. So many accidents occur at the spot. It is because Ebony is a star that is why people are raising alarm. Many people have died over there,” the DCE said.

Ebony, whose real name is Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, was returning from Sunyani after visiting her mother who had returned from the UK, when the Jeep she was travelling in crashed into railings on the road edge of the road.

Ebony was travelling with three other people when the accident occurred, killing everyone but the driver.

Police in their preliminary investigations revealed that, the car collided with an oncoming VIP bus, when their driver tried to avoid a heap of sand in their lane.

Full police report on accident

On 08/02/2018, at about 23:45 hours, suspect driver Chartey Oko Pinehad, aged 29, was driving Jeep No. AS497-16 from Sunyani to Accra with three occupants on board, whilst suspect driver Mohammed Abubakar aged 48 years, was also driving KIA Grad Bird [VIP] bus with registration No. GT 3232-17 from Accra to Sunyani with a set of passengers on board.

The mangled remains of the Jeep after the crash

On reaching a section of the road between Nyamebekyere and Nsuta, there was a heap of sand in the lane of the Jeep which was being used for the road maintenance, and the driver in trying to avoid running into the sand, swerved onto the opposite lane and grazed the nearside portion of the bus and plunged into the railings at the edge of the road, killing the three other occupants identified as Francisca Nkansah Kuri aged 27 years, Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng [Ebony], and Lance Corporal Vondee Francis Atsu, aged 29 years.

The driver sustained injuries and was rushed to Bechem Government hospital for treatment. The occupants on board the bus escaped unhurt.

Bodies conveyed and deposited at Bechem government hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy. Accident vehicle impounded at the station. Suspect driver on enquiry bail.

Ricky Nana Agyemang, aka Bullet, the Manager of dancehall diva Ebony, who died in a fatal car accident on Thursday,  has confirmed that some pastors indeed prophesied about Ebony’s accident.

To buttress his point, he has revealed in a Facebook post that, based on the prophesy that Ebony would be involved in an accident, they did all they could for God’s intervention.

He has also shared screenshots of whatssap chats which suggest that music producer Kaywa, who also had the revelation of the accident, asked them to donate to an orphanage and also release a gospel song.

“I have seen videos and heard audios of some people and prophets after the death of my girl ebony.can people have a little heart and stop judging her. Kaywa saw this long time and did a lot of directions and prayers for us.i have chats with prophets who also saw this coming.we did what we could but God knows best!” he posted.

Since the demise of Ebony, some prophets have emerged claiming to have prophesied her death. In one of the videos, the head pastor and founder of the True Word Prophetic Fire Ministry located at Achimota mile 7, Prophet Nigel Gaise, emphatically stated that Ebony was going to be killed in an accident and that nothing could save her.

The Prophet said Ebony’s death was going to be like that of late actress Suzzy Williams, and musician Terry Bonchaka.

Check screenshots of the WhatsApp chats they had with Kaywa:
