A self-styled evangelist is facing the law for allegedly swindling his fiancée of GH¢165,000.

The accused, Solomon Yidana, was on Monday put before a Kumasi Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Ekow Mensah, to answer a charge of defrauding by false pretence.

He however pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of GH¢165,000 with three sureties.

Yidana would be making his next appearance on Monday, July 24.

Police Inspector Eric Asante said the complainant, Bernice Kennedy, runs her own business in the gold mining town of Obuasi and is the fiancée of the accused.

In September, last year, the woman told Yidana of her decision to buy a Mercedes Benz GL450 vehicle, and he convinced her that he could get that for her from a car dealer in Togo.

The prosecution said Bernice went ahead to give the money to him but he could not deliver the car.

Left with no option, she made a formal report to the police on June 26, and he was arrested.

A Trader, Cecelia Nyame was on Wednesday put before an Accra Circuit Court for defrauding by false pretense.

Cecelia was said to have defrauded one Francis Sarpong Dakudze of an amount of GH¢30,000.00.

She pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of GH¢50,000.00 with one surety to reappear on July 24.

The facts of the case as presented by Police Inspector E. Haligah were that the complainant Francis is a contractor while the accused is a trader.

He said during the month of August 2014, a witness, in this case, Comfort Atamudzie Mefanawo Awanyo, who is a landlady, decided to sell her house and discussed the issue with the accused who was by then a tenant in the house.

The prosecution said the accused then informed the said landlady that she can get someone to buy the house.

A few weeks later, the accused person went to inform the landlady that she had got someone who wanted to buy the house but the buyer is demanding for documents covering the house before making any payment.

Inspector Haligah told the court that the witness gave out the documents to the accused person to be shown to the complainant.

He said the accused took the documents to the complainant and claimed she had bought the house from the landlady at the cost of GH¢80,000.00 but will sell it at the cost of GH¢ 70,000,00 to defray some debts and further asked the complainant to pay GH¢30,000,00 as part payment to enable her to pay some tenants in the house to vacate the premises after which he could pay the balance of GH¢40,000,00 later.

However, several months after the accused person collected the above-mentioned amount, she failed to honour her part of the bargain and started giving flimsy excuses to the complainant.

The prosecution said the complainant, suspecting a foul play, demanded a refund of his money which the accused failed to do.

On the June 28, a report was made to the police and Cecelia was arrested and after investigations, she was charged

Christopher Anani, self-employed, who allegedly assaulted a co-tenant for his jubilation over the New Patriotic Party’s victory at Agbogba, has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.

Anani, who was charged with assault, pleaded with the court to allow him and the complainant settle the matter out of court.

The Court therefore referred the parties to the Alternative Dispute Resolution of the court system.

It however admitted Anani to bail and adjourned the matter to March 20. Inspector Emmanuel Haligah said the complainant, Richard Thompson, was tailor and a resident of Agbogba.  The accused person also resides in the same area.

The prosecutor said Anani, who stays in the same house with the complainant, became angry over the jubilation.

Inspector Haligah said the accused, who is perceived to be a National Democratic Congress sympathizer, entered into the complainant’s room and pulled him onto the compound and brutally assaulted him.

The prosecution said Anani‘s conduct resulted in “bodily affliction” to the nose, eye, legs with headaches.

A report was made to the Police and Anani was subsequently arrested.

Three persons on Thursday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly trafficking a trader to Saudi Arabia after promising her a job in the Kingdom.

The woman on reaching the country was however subjected to sexual abuse and maltreatment by her supposed master.

The three are George Boadu, a trader, Fati Mahammud a Secretary and Leah Kalimi a Kenyan businesswoman. They are variously being held on the charges of conspiracy, operating a private employment agency without licence and human trafficking.

They have pleaded not guilty and the court admitted them to GH¢50,000.00 bail each.

Kalimi, was ordered to deposit her passport at the Court’s Registry until directed otherwise. They are expected to reappear on November 14.

Prosecuting Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) C.K. Abadamlora said the complainant was Rita Owusu a resident of Sunshine, a suburb of La.

According to DSP Abadamlora the accused person reside in Accra and during the month of July this year, the complainant’s junior sister who lived at Nkawkaw came to Accra to visit her at La.

George Boadu who had no license to recruit for job placement abroad met the complainant’s sister and during their conversation lured her and trafficked her to Saudi Arabia.

He said in and around August this year, the victim (complainant’s Sister) rang the complainant that she was being abused sexually and maltreated in Saudi Arabia.

DSP Abadamlora said the victim therefore demanded that she should be brought back to Ghana but Boadu failed to do so.

Boadu was therefore arrested and during investigation he disclosed that Fati and Kalimi were his accomplices.

Fati said she only worked as secretary to Kamili who had no resident permit. She was picked up by the police.

The prosecutor said Kamili disclosed that Fati processed the victim’s documents and Boadu was paid 1,100 dollars as agent fee and further took GH¢1,000.00 from the victim.

Police investigation revealed that Kamili employed Fati as Secretary and Boadu was an agent who recruited Ghanaian ladies who are then trafficked to the Middle East.

Three people have been arrested over the alleged destruction of property of the Living Power Ministry Church valued at GHȼ70,235.00.

Thomas Osei-Wusu, Agyenim Boateng and Emmanuel Akwasi Wusu, reportedly used a bulldozer to level the church’s building at the Airport Roundabout in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

They were on Wednesday put before a Circuit Court, presided over by Mrs. Mary Nsenkyire, to answer charges of conspiracy, intentionally and unlawfully causing damage.

The three pleaded not guilty and were each granted GHȼ80,000.00 bail with two sureties to make their next appearance on October 25.

Police Chief Inspector Felix Akowuah told the court that one Ernest Kyei Darkwah permitted the church, sometime in year 2010, to complete an uncompleted structure he had erected on his plot of land for use as worship centre.

Five years later, Osei-Wusu came, claiming title to the very same land on which the church building was sitting.

The prosecution said he together with two other accused persons, brought in a bulldozer and leveled the property, leaving in complete ruins, a set of musical instruments, 160 pieces of plastic chairs, office furniture, curtains, pulpit and woolen carpet.

A formal report was made to the police and they were apprehended.
