Deputy Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Gifty Twum-Ampofo, has urged various stakeholders to mobilize all available resources to partner government in accomplishing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Speaking at a symposium on ‘The Day of the African Child’, she said government alone cannot accomplish the SDGs, hence the need for the stakeholders to support it by providing the needed resources.

“Ensuring empowerment and equal opportunity, we should be targeting all social and economic groups in order to ensure that no child is left behind, with a particular focus on prioritizing the rights and needs of the poorest and most marginalized,” she said.

The Vice Principal of the Methodist University College, Very Rev. Prof. Joseph Edusa-Eyison who also addressed the gathering said, the neglect of children encourages social vices, therefore, the church and parents should ensure that the children are properly catered for and supported.

He also noted that the challenges that most children in Ghana and Africa face, stem from poverty.

“A challenge confronting children in Ghana and Africa is poverty of families and parents, unequal educational opportunity child trafficking, child labor and abuse, community violence and a threat to children right and welfare, general moral decay and neglect due to over engaged parents at their workplaces”, he lamented.

Padmore Baffour Agyapong, the Country Director for Compassion International Ghana, organizers of the symposium said, it was not enough to deliberate and brainstorm over the problem, however, efforts must be made to implement the solutions.

Compassion International Ghana, is a child development organization that works to alleviate poverty in societies by targeting children and ensuring their wellbeing.
