This year’s award was under the theme “Cause Related Marketing: Panacea for National Behavioural Change.

The citation for the award read, “For your hard work and dedication, coupled with continuous innovations, bespoke services, managing marketing effectiveness, staff development and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives you were singled out to pick this maiden gong”.

Commenting on the award, Raymond Kwakye-Bismarck, MD, Izwe Loans, said the company over the past six years has served over 100,000 customers, and currently holds in excess of GHS 130 million in retail deposits and bonds.

“Our consistent growth has been supported by many loyal investors who form the foundation of our strong corporate and retail deposit base, as well as our Corporate Note Programme listed on Ghana Alternative Exchange (GAX)”, he explained.

Mr. Kwakye-Bismarck said going forward the company will further pursue a diversification of its product mix to off-payroll products while continuing to maintain its established payroll business.

“Within this year and 2018, the company is pursuing a total loan portfolio of 20% off-payroll and 80% on-payroll”, he said.

“Car4Cash an asset backed loan product has been recently added to our bouquet of products. It seeks to provide loans to individuals and Small businesses using a very simple means of assessment. It is the first of several off-payroll products we intend to roll out in the next 18 months” he said.

Currently Izwe’s loan portfolio is focused on developmental activities such as education, business, family, housing and agriculture.

The company currently has 10 branches across the country; Accra (3 branches), Kumasi (2 branches), Takoradi, Tamale, Ho, Sunyani and Koforidua.

The Telecoms giant’s customer rewards programme, Yee Twi Kor, also won the best TV Advert of the Year and Press Advert of the Year, during the event held in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

Healthline TV, which has over the years amassed several awards both local and international, becomes the only TV programme to win this category four times over a seven-year period – 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2017.

A citation presented to Ethel Adjorlolo Marfo stated, “You are a multi- passionate social entrepreneur who is proudly Africa’s First Male Child Development Activist.”

“You founded Junior Shapers Africa ( JSA), a social  enterprise  that seeks  to champion  the proper  upbringing  of the boy child  and aspire  them to become  responsible  men and supporters  of the empowered modern African woman.’’

An  elated Mrs. Marfo  said,  “I am thankful to CIMG Awards for recognizing my efforts in raising responsible boys to build stronger homes and communities for a better Africa. I am inspired to do more and I am looking forward to impacting more boys across Ghana and our continent with our effective behaviour shaping programs at JSA.”

In all, about 41 institutions were honoured by CIMG at the awards night held on Saturday.

Profile of Ethel Adjorlolo Marfo

Ethel Adjorlolo Marfo is a social entrepreneur who is passionately Africa’s 1^st Male Child Development Activist. She provides grooming and mentoring for boys between 6-16 years to aspire to become responsible men with high standards of integrity and solid supporters of the modern African woman.

Ethel is the Founder & CEO of Junior Shapers Africa, a social enterprise championing male child empowerment in Africa.

Other enterprises founded by Ethel include: Salon Cuties, a niche salon children and Ghana Mompreneurs Club, a business support network for moms combining business and early years of motherhood.

Hirtheto, Ethel worked as a Public Relations and Marketing Professional for the following organizations: Guinness Ghana Breweries Ltd, Aviation Social Center Ltd, The Spelling Bee Ghana.

She was also a former employee of Citi 97.3FM in Accra.

Ethel is married to Mr Kwasi Marfo. The couple is blessed with three lovely girls.

According to him, even though MMDCEs have to generate their own revenue, it does not mean they should ‘’over tax’’ business because it will only drive away businesses.

‘’…we also need you to take seriously the issue of internally generated funds; you must try and raise as much revenue as possible. But that does not also mean you must over tax your people and over tax business,’’ he said.

President Mahama noted that ‘’when you over tax businesses, you drive them away from your district; you should guard against over taxing businesses.’’

He said this when he opened a two-day conference of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives in Accra. The conference is under the theme ”Implementing the Better Ghana Agenda”.

It is recalled that government in recent months have come under a barrage of criticism from the populace and businesses over the introduction of the tax amendment bill which effectively increased VAT to 17.5 percent.

The tax net was also widened to include hitherto things that did not fall under the tax net.

The President used the occasion to urge the various participants to cease the opportunity and as a priority, create jobs within their districts.

According to him, job creation should be seen as a local effort to enable the assemblies take initiatives which will address local needs to subsequently feed into the national agenda.

He also reiterated his administration’s efforts at prioritizing education and ensuring that it is improved across all levels of the educational ladder.

Touching on government’s pro-poor policies, President Mahama urged the various districts to design their own home-grown policies and programs to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.

The president  announced that work will begin next month on building permanent administrative facilities for the newly created districts who don’t have places to effectively operate.

On his part, Minister for Local government and Rural Development, Akwasi Oppong Fosu, called on the MMDCEs to be focused on their core responsibilities and seek to maintain their composure at all times.

According to him as representatives of the President they need to comport themselves even in the face of extreme provocation, so their actions don’t disgrace the Presidency and the NDC Party.

The two day conference will see presentation on various topics by persons such as the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr Kwadwo Afari-Djan, Chairman of CHRAJ, Laureta Lamptey, Professor Kwamena Ahwoi, General Secretary of the NDC Johnson Aseidu Nketia amongst others.
