Ghana’s Black Stars showed strength to put Guinea away by three goals to one in the 2015 AFCON qualifier at the Tamale Sports Stadium.

The two teams had met earlier in Casablanca last Saturday and played out a 1-1 draw but the Stars were victorious this time around.

The team took the lead in the 13th minute through captain Asamoah Gyan when he tapped home a cross from Jordan Ayew from close range.

But the away side came back into the match when defender Diarra Mohame Lamine scored in the 34th minute. He stroked home his shot after an initial free kick took a deflection and landed in his path to send both sides into the break tied at 1-1.

After the break, Ghana started well and in the 55th minute, the Black Stars were handed a penalty after a shot went off the hand of a Guinean defender.

Midfielder Andre Ayew scored from the spot to put Ghana into the lead. The goal spurred the Guineans into action and they created chances including a 80th minute volley that went just past the goal post with Adams stuck to his spot.

Ghana held on and got a third goal on the break. Defender Baba Rahman run the ball towards the Guinean goal and set up substitute Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu who placed the ball beyond Guinean goalkeeper Naby Yattara.

The win gives Ghana 8 points; a two-point lead over Togo who beat Uganda 1-0 in Lome while Uganda and Guinea are tied on 4 points each.

Teams:

Ghana starting lineup:

Stephen Adams, Harrison Afful, Baba Abdul Rahman, Awal Mohammed, Jonathan Mensah, Rabiu Mohammed, Solomon Asante, Kwadwo Asamoah, Asamoah Gyan, Jordan Ayew, Andre Ayew.

Police in the Tamale Metropolis have launched investigations into the circumstances under which explicit photographs and video recordings of different women in sexual orgies went viral in the metropolis.

The pictures and videos reportedly show the women in compromising positions, performing various sexual acts.

They  are suspected to have been taken by a Canadian national who reportedly engaged in the acts with them when he visited Ghana recently.

The Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, told Citi News that the Police are looking into the matter following complaints from the parents of the man.

According to ASP Tetteh, the parents lodged an official complaint to the police alleging that “a friend of the man had stolen the hard drive on which the pictures were stored” from him and distributed them.

ASP Tetteh revealed that the police had begun investigations into “how the pictures videos were acquired” and whether they were “gained with the consent of the ladies or not.”

The situation has provoked widespread condemnation from residents of Tamale with reports indicating that the women have fled the city.

About 443 power thieves have been arrested in the Northern Regional capital Tamale.

They were arrested during a massive illegal disconnection exercise carried in the Tamale metropolis.

Majority of them have been compelled to pay for the power consumed whiles others are to be processed before the law court.

Head of Public and Community Relations of VRA/NEDco, Alhaji Mohammed Siam in a Citi News interview said the perpetrators will face the full rigors of the law.

He exposed the modus operandi of the power thieves saying, “People want to reap what they have not shown; you go to places they have air conditioners and they bypass the load.”

He continued saying, “Initially they were bypassing the prepaid meters with what they call Utouch; they drill holes through the walls and then do the bypassing and it takes vigilance to discover it.”

He cautioned traditional and opinion leaders in the Tamale Metropolis against any interference in the task forces’ operation.

A task force has been set up by the Northern Electricity Department of the Volta River Authority to minimize or eradicate the financial losses caused by the power thieves.

Prices of food commodities especially cereals and grains have gone up in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale.

This has compelled restaurant and chop bar operators to increase the prices of meals they sell.

A bag of maize which was sold at GHC75 a fortnight ago is now GHC90.

A bag of groundnut sold the previous week at GHC28 is now selling at GHC36.

A bag of millet sold the previous week at GHC80 is now selling at GHC100.

Citi Business News visited the main Aboabo Market in Tamale where cereals and grains are sold in large quantities.

Some of the frustrated retailers including Habib Baako and Alhassan Sakpedoo bemoaned the situation and said business was down.

They said customers were alarmed by the price hikes but attributed it to the shortfalls in the rains.

The entire Northern Region is likely to experience drought this year because the rains are not forthcoming as expected.

Large scale farmers around Gushiegu, Karaga, Savelugu, Nanton and other parts of the Northern Region are likely to suffer losses this year if there no rains in the coming days.

The nation’s food security could be in jeopardy since the north is considered as the food basket of the country.

The Northern Electricity Department of Volta River Authority (VRA/NED) has assured residents of Tamale and its environs that there will be no erratic power supply during the World Cup season.

This has allayed the fears of soccer fans in Tamale of some of who planned to use car batteries to watch the matches in case of any eventuality.

Head of Public and Community Relations of VRA/NEDco, Alhaji Mohammed Siam in a Citi News interview said there wouldn’t be power fluctuations throughout the soccer fiesta.

He said, “Over here I must assure you and you can find out that in our operations if there is any fault our men will stay and work till the fault is rectified; rarely do we push any fault to the following day unless it is a major fault.”

According to Alhaji Siam all technical staff on leave have been called back to be on standby to make sure that every problem is resolved before the World Cup begun.

Stockpiling their hopes on Ghana’s four nil against South Korea in a friendly match, some of the enthusiastic soccer fans anticipated that Ghana will elevate the Star of Africa by lifting the trophy.

Some Television repairers in the Tamale Metropolis including Musah Alhassan whose shop is by the Tamale Central Mosque took advantage of the upcoming World Cup to cash in ahead of the opening ceremony of the World Cup.

Some soccer fans whose television sets have slight problems rushed for immediate repairs.

It is the hope and prayer of every patriotic Ghanaian that the Black Stars will lift the trophy to brighten Ghana’s much touted accolade as the gateway to Africa.

Nonetheless, the NDC chief scribe accused workers on government’s pay roll of stampeding government to implement the Single Spine Salary Structure.
