Dr Lawrence Tetteh, an economist and international evangelist, is to hold a healing crusade at Denkyira Obuase in October, where a mob action led to the death of Major Maxwell Adam Mahama, a Detachment Commander.

Dr Tetteh, also the President of the UK based Worldwide Miracle Outreach told reporters in Accra on Tuesday that he would rally churches around the community in the Central Region, for a massive healing and restoration crusade.

He said a national tragedy occurred in the town, “and I believe as a nation we are all guilty in one way or the other for the shedding of an innocent blood”.

Dr Tetteh said: “The people of Ghana has taken so many things for granted,” and called on all well-meaning Ghanaians to turn to God and mend their ways.

He said it was written in 2 Chronicle 7:14 that “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I  hear from heaven and heal the land”.

Major Mahama, who was jogging on May 29, was killed by a mob from Denkyira Obuase, who mistook him for an armed robber.

Madam Veronica Bamford, the Mother of Major Maxwell Adam Mahama, in a tribute to her son at his memorial service, said she is devastated by his death.

Her son was painfully lynched at Denkyira-Obuasi  in the Central Region, by residents who mistook him for an armed robber.

Below is the mother’s tribute:

On lst November, 1985 my sweet baby boy, for me the greatest gift of all-he made me a mother for the first time. Maxwell Adam Mahama was such a special child. He had a pure, loving, kind heart reflected in his always smiling face. Since childhood. Adam was very energetic. Throughout school he always participated and excelled in sports.

This passion continued into adulthood. An avid sportsman. he played lawn tennis for the Army and for leisure. In addition to being a strong swimmer, he also recently explored golf and equestrianism. He was always learning. looking for ways to improve himself and to be a better human being.

As a compassionate animal lover, his respect for life also extended to his pets. His family and friends know of some of his dogs. especially Luna. who brought him so much joy. He would pay tribute to her on the anniversary of her death. While I was in Ghana in March. he lost a dog and he spent time alone with the dead dog shedding tears, after which he buried it. Then he said ‘Mummy that was my children’s pet. As soon as they wake up they go and check on it before anything else.” He said he had to get another dog for his children.

Adam loved his family fiercely. He had a great sense of duty to his family and to those around him’ you knew you could always count on Adam to be there whenever you needed him. always a phone call away from doing whatever I needed help with no matter how small the task. I am so proud of the son I raised, an honourable man who took care of others, who protected his nation. and who displayed true manhood in how he cared for his wife and kids.

I am falling to pieces. Tell the killers they have destroyed me. Tell them he was a very special son. forever my boy. calling me Mummy, Mummy. Mummy. He could never string a sentence together without “Mummy” in it. Tell them they do not know this loving. very affectionate son of mine. They do not know about how he would walk in, lift me up, put me on the sofa and say “relax Mummy” and massage my feet.

He openly showed his affection for me without shame. He could not walk with me without his arm around my shoulders. Mummy could not save her son. Mummy was not there to comfort him or take the pain away.

To Barbara the daughter Adam gave me my daughter who would openly proclaim to the world how special her husband is what an amazing father he was I say this bond will from now be much stronger than it already is. I will always be there for you. A doting loving father my son was. Barbara’s sons. my grandsons. have been robbed of their love and joy. Whenever he hugged and kissed me in their presence, he would say “Jaden. Jerry this is how you should treat your mummy.” His dream was to make his family and myself comfortable.

He had a good heart, compassionate, loving and affectionate. it hurts me that this has turned political. He loved his country and vowed to protect its citizens but politics was not his business. I am lost. I am falling to pieces. Some friends are avoiding me and I can understand. since they do not know what to say, or how to console me in such a horrendous circumstance. Total strangers have called me crying, sharing in my grief.

My head is spinning. I hope I do not go crazy. Please do not let this happen to another mother. I am a woman of faith, so death and dying are not my fears but never in my wildest nightmares did I ever think I would be burying my son. Never! The gruesome and horrific way my son was snatched from this earth is beyond any words. It feels as if my heart has been ripped from my chest. I feel hollow, just moving about like an empty shell. My baby is gone forever. They have taken him away from me. His life was cut short in a most violent and disgusting way.

I need an answer to my question-WHY? Give me an opportunity to face these murderers so they can see and understand what they have done to a mother. Let me tell them what they do not know about my son. Adam. Let me show them his two innocent children. Tell them they have taken Barbara’s sunshine away.

Mummy was not there to hold her dying son to comfort him. Mummy was not there to ease his pain. I will go to my grave with this void in my heart  and with this pain, Adam. I hope you know how much mummy loves you. I hope you know that I would trade places with you on that fateful day if I could.

Adam, mummy is very proud of you.Mummy knows the type of heart you had. Mummy knows that only God knows best and He alone loves you more than I do. Mummy loves you and mummy will never let your memory be forgotten.

The National Women’s Organiser of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Janet Nabala, has expressed her dissatisfaction with the handling of the case involving a 67-year-old woman who was lynched in the Upper East region.

The 67-year-old widow, Yenboka Kenna, was lynched at the Pelungu market on Monday, May 29, 2017, after she was accused of being a witch.

Three persons who were arrested in connection with the barbaric act have subsequently been released on bail by the police, who cited lack of evidence as a reason for temporarily setting them free.

[contextly_sidebar id=”mVohGAwsOZUduOWaZXHfKPuqRNTzzNKE”]But Madam Nabla believes the state must give equal attention to the matter to ensure that it is not swept under the carpet considering the excuses so far from the police.

“I don’t think God will bless what will be a wicked country if the police don’t get up and fight this menace. I think the government should do something about it and if the people who caused the death of this woman are not punished, I would think the government is doing selective justice.”

Madam Nabla, also alluded to a class and gender divide that has seen the tragic murder of Captain Mawell Mahama hock and elicit sympathy and support from the country, though the murder of the widow has largely been neglected over the past week.

“If the President could go to Captain Mahama’s house and sympathize with his family and yet there is a woman who was killed and the President has said nothing about it, then it shows how important men are in this country, and how women are used in this country whilst nobody cares about us when we have a problem.”

The police have retrieved the pistol of the late Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama. The pistol went missing on Monday after his  gruesome killing.

On Tuesday, the soldiers who were dispatched to the Denkyira Obuasi town for initial investigations and to retrieve the remains of the slain soldier, pledged not to leave until they were able to find the pistol.

[contextly_sidebar id=”6Jr7NSMmZMmC4dqsVVCVXmzIP8jQE0C0″]On Wednesday however, a member of the unit committee suspected to be involved in the lynching, surrendered himself to the police, and also handed over the pistol to the police, reports Graphic Online’s Central Regional Correspondent, Timothy Gobah.

The police subsequently arrested him together with the assembly member for the area, William Baah, who is also suspected to be involved in the matter.

Assembly man’s role

The police earlier explained that, the Assembly Member for Denkyira-Obuasi, William Baah, reported at the police station at about 10 a.m. last Monday, that about 9:30 a.m. that day, he (Baah) had received a distress call from one of the foodstuff sellers along the Denkyira-Obuasi highway.

The food seller said she had seen a man with a pistol strapped to his back and suspected him to be an armed robber.

According to the police, two friends of the assembly member accompanied him to the highway, where he met Captain Mahama on the outskirts of the town.

According to the complaint lodged by Baah, when he [assembly member] and his friends approached Captain Mahama, he drew a pistol at them, but Baah managed to escape, leaving the two friends behind.

The police said when they proceeded to the scene, they found the soldier lynched by an unknown mob, with multiple deep wounds on the head, while a part of his body was burnt.

Security Analyst, Dr. Kwesi Anning, has said government deserves commendation for the fight against illegal mining also known as galamsey in the country.

According to him, persons behind the booming galamsey business are usually powerful people in society, hence fighting them is not an easy task.

[contextly_sidebar id=”ZY4vRp7aV2daTyYoxDSZ3AS3LBADcLyM”]“When as a government you begin to tackle criminal enterprises who have had a new way to abuse and misuse their authority and to exploit the state; they fight back and create even more violence. Fighting galamsey alone is enough to give them kudos because the galamsey fight that the president is leading through his ministers is not just about small boys and girls running around polluting our waters,” Dr. Anning said on the Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday.

Government has recently waged a massive war on galamsey following a huge advocacy spearheaded by the media especially Citi FM.

Government has subsequently banned small scale mining for six months in a bid to curb the galamsey menace, which has polluted a number of water bodies and destroyed farm lands.

Who buys the galamsey gold?

A military officer, Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama, was killed at Denkyira-Obausi in the Central Region on Monday after he and his colleagues were deployed tot the town to fight illegal miners.

The security analyst further enquired about persons who purchase the gold extracted by the galamseyers, adding that some of the violence being recorded in the mining areas might have been masterminded by the buyers of the gold.

“Let’s ask the tough questions – who buys the gold? Is it Islamic state, is it Al-Qaeda, is it used to support some of the violence in the Middle East?  When you test their interest, of course they will try to discredit the government. So we should not be bamboozled by a little setback…we’ve got to look at the bigger picture,” he added.
