The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Joseph Tetteh, has called on all men in the country to join the breast cancer awareness campaign.

In an interview with Citi News, the Deputy Minister bemoaned the lack of men’s involvement in the fight against breast cancer.

[contextly_sidebar id=”uXEFRsTgVQyXJ0WcFKKPJTaENWnuyeBo”]”…I believe now is the time to take the bull by its horn. breast cancer is not a good thing and we must help our mothers, sisters, aunties and wives because if one member of the family becomes affected one way or the other it affects others also in the family.”

The Deputy Minister, focusing on the important role women play in the society, also called for a change of mind and attitude towards women diagnosed with breast cancer.

“Some women are even breadwinners for both their nuclear and extended families and it is very disheartening to hear and see some men rejecting, divorcing and pushing them to early grave because they have just been diagnosed with breast cancer.”

Mr. Tetteh thus called on all men to be responsible and desist from abusing women with breast cancer.

“I am using this opportunity to rally all men to stand by their wives, sisters, mothers and other relatives who are facing breast cancer problems, breast cancer survivors deserve extra care, treatment and attention from their husbands, partners and family members.”

“…on the 14th of October, I want all men in the Eastern Region and outside the region to find time off their busy schedules and join the (BCI WALK FOR THE CURE BREAST CANCER AWARENESS CREATION WALK) at Jackson Park. I will be there and I have arranged for a bus to transport any individual from Krobo Land who wants to join the awareness creation walk” he noted.

The event, which is yearly organized under the leadership of Dr. Mrs. Beatrice Wiafe, CEO of Peace and Love Hospitals, will be held on October 14 this year, at the Koforidua Jackson’s Park.

Speaking at the official launching of this year’s BCI WALK FOR THE CURE, the Busumbruhene of the New Juaben Traditional Council, Nana Bugye Asante, speaking on behalf of the Traditional Council, pledged to join the walk to create awareness and help save lives.

Airtel Ghana, the Changemaker Company has commenced its annual month-long campaign to create awareness on breast cancer throughout the month of October.

The campaign, now in its fifth year, is under the theme “Eat Well, Live Well” and will involve the rollout of innovative, insightful and fun-filled activities championed by Airtel Ghana employees to raise funds and drive public awareness on breast cancer, its prevention and management throughout the month of October.

The campaign is also a call to action for Ghanaians to live a healthy life and to undertake regular checks as experts have established that early detection and a healthy diet reduces the risk of breast cancer.

Commenting on the campaign, Hannah Agbozo, Legal & Corporate Affairs Director- Airtel Ghana said, “We have, over the past five years championed this cause, under different themes to raise awareness and raise funds internally to support organisations involved in breast cancer related causes. This year, we are driving a number of initiatives proudly spearheaded by our employees to support the global initiative to combat breast cancer. This year, our focus is on driving the ‘Eat well, Live well’ campaign to encourage Ghanaians to adopt healthier eating and lifestyle habits to reduce the incidence of breast cancer”.

“We will start the campaign off with our ‘Run for a Cure’ which is an employee fun race to create awareness on Friday 07 October. This will be followed by a breast cancer seminar and examination workshop and a flea market to raise funds to support this cause. We encourage our customers and the general public to join us by actively participating or joining the conversation on our social media handles to amplify awareness on breast cancer. You can connect with us via Facebook, Instagram, twitter and LinkedIn,” She concluded.

This year, as it has been in the past years, all funds raised internally from the campaign will be donated to an organization focused on breast cancer. Airtel customers and the general public will be engaged through social media with the hashtag #eatwelllivewell.

Airtel Ghana continues to lead initiatives that empower and transform the lives of individuals and communities through sustainable initiatives that promote health, education and community developments.

The 2012 Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo-Addo has denied media reports that there is a fractured relationship between him and ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor.

In a statement, Nana Addo said: “I would like to place on record that these allegations, pointing to an unhealthy relationship between President Kufuor and myself, are false.”

He also denied allegations that the ex-President did not support his presidential bid in 2008 and 2012.

Below is the full statement

My attention has been drawn to ongoing media reportage and commentary being made by some members of the New Patriotic Party, and, unsurprisingly, by our political opponents to the effect there is a fractured relationship between President John Agyekum Kufuor and myself.

The allegations that are making the rounds include the fact that President Kufuor did not support my presidential bids in 2008 and in 2012, and is also not in support of my bid to lead the party into the 2016 general elections, amongst others.

I would like to place on record that these allegations, pointing to an unhealthy relationship between President Kufuor and myself, are false.

In 2008, President Kufuor, when President of the Republic, supported fully my bid to become president of our country and gave me his unstinting assistance.

Likewise, in 2012, the support I received from him was unflinching, as it was during the entire course of the now famous election petition. It remains my firm conviction that his two-term government, in which I had the privilege to serve as Attorney General and Foreign Minister, has been the best government this country has had, and I am proud to have been a member of it. Never has there been a point in time where our former President has done anything detrimental to me, as a person, or to the party with me as its presidential candidate. As far as the 2016 election is concerned, President Kufuor has made it clear to all and sundry that he does not support any particular candidate and will work to help whoever emerges from the presidential primary as the party’s candidate.

These false allegations do not bode well for our internal cohesion as a party, and I plead with all members who have been fed with these untruths to desist from propagating them any further. Such unguarded pronouncements could give our opponents comfort from their non-performance.

I am compelled to inform the public that President Kufuor and I remain in regular communication with each other, and I make it a point to visit him every week. Such actions cannot be suggestive of a fractured relationship between two colleagues.

I urge NPP faithful not to be side-tracked by such falsehoods, but remain focused, bearing in mind that the people of Ghana are looking up to us to make the necessary arrangements that will give them the confidence to trust us with the mandate to serve them once again.

……signed……
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

Former President John Kufuor has said, the death of the late Paul Victor Obeng is shocking and unexpected.

He noted that “there wasn’t any suggestion at all that he wasn’t well but that is the mystery of the whole thing.”

The ex-President in a media interview described the senior advisor to the President as “a naturally intelligent person, quite sociable.”

He revealed that although he did not agree with Mr. Obeng’s kind of politics, “that didn’t stop the two of us from relating in civility. We related quite well but it’s shocking.”

“In party politics, you agree to disagree. That is the way to do it in a healthy way,” he added.

President John Mahama’s senior advisor, PV Obeng died on Saturday from a suspected asthma attack.

He was rushed to the LEKMA hospital but he died shortly after.

Aside being the senior presidential advisor, Mr. Obeng chaired the National Development Planning Commission.
