A total of 818 residents of Bongo in the Upper East Region, have been displaced by the Monday night rainstorm which affected 24 communities in the area.

The affected victims comprise 292 and 193 adult males and females respectively, and 180 and 289 male and female children respectively, including one girl who sustained a leg injury.

Speaking to Citi News after assessing the situation, the Bongo District National Disaster Management Organization’s (NADMO), Tahiru Rafiu, called for aid from government and donor agencies for support.

“In the Soe market area, 138 people were displaced, while 54 houses were destroyed by the rainstorm. At the Soe Mission area, 39 people were displaced with 14 houses having their roofs ripped off. At Soboku, 29 people were displaced with 11 houses affected, and in Saasu area, 29 people have been displaced with 10 houses destroyed among other places.”

“Considering the number of victims affected by the rainstorm it is out of hand, the district is handicapped so we cannot do anything about the situation in terms of providing relief for the disaster survivors victims.

“We are appealing to central government and donor agencies to come to the aid of these disaster victims especially the public institutions such as the schools, the Luugo CHPScentrer and the rehabilitation of accommodation for the security personnel whose apartments were also affected.” Mr. Rafiu stated.
