The company fully covered the cost involved in transporting the items to the Baptist School Complex (BASCO) an orphanage at Trotor, near Suhum in the Eastern Region and the Handivangelism Orphanage at Haatso in Accra.

Freight Consult also donated a cash amount of GHc5,500 in support of the Easter Orphan Project.

Staff of Citi FM with some of their listeners on Monday went to three orphanages in the country namely; BASCO, Handivangelism and Mama Laadi Orphanage at Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region and handed over donations it received from Ghanaians as part of the Easter celebration.

The initiative dubbed “Easter Orphan Project” sought to support the selected orphanages with enough supplies to last them for a whole year.

Over the years, Citi FM has supported Orphanages with cash donations, stationery, food items and more, mostly collected from the station’s cherished listeners.

In 2016, Citi FM with support from it listeners provided students at BASCO with bunk beds and desks.

The station also in 2013 with support of corporate Ghana, built a vocational training center for BASCO, to cater for training in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, hairdressing, and masonry.

This was to equip students of the school with skills to enable them take charge of their economic lives in future.

The past few months saw a number of corporate entities and individuals donate items in cash and kind, in support of the outreach to BASCO and two other orphanages; Mama Lardi Orphanage in the Upper East Region and Handivangelism Orphanage in Accra.

The donated items, comprising toiletries, books, stationary and foodstuff, were presented to the orphanage, which is headed by Reverend Victor Ofori-Amoah, during the outreach today [Monday].

Citi FM has been supporting the orphanage for over a decade, and most notably, in 2013, the station through the support of its listeners and corporate Ghana, built a vocational training centre meant to cater for training in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, hairdressing, and masonry at BASCO.

Aside from the donation, some staff of Citi FM and some volunteers also partook in a mentoring session with students of BASCO.

The mentoring session was to inspire the hundreds of students to aspire to greatness, and also provide the students with the opportunity to learn about career opportunities available for them.

The Director of News Programming and Host of the Citi Breakfast Show, Bernard Avle, urged the students to plan towards their future and persevere in their academic pursuit.

He urged the Junior High School students to select their Senior High School courses based on their interest and special skills.

While admonishing them to take their academic work serious, he urged them not to be discouraged by their family challenges.

Programmes Manager and co-host of Traffic Avenue, Jessica Opare Soforo, told the students that they should be driven by their passion to serve and not just money.

Umaru Sanda Amadu, host of Citi FM’s news analysis programme, The Big Issue, said one’s family background cannot hinder his or her development if he or she perseveres and is determined to succeed.

Kojo Akoto Boateng, the co-host of the Citi Breakfast Show said that, even though academic qualification was not a guarantee for success, it was important for the students to perform well and pass their final examinations; thus the Basic and second cycle examinations.

In 2013, the station through the support of its listeners and corporate Ghana, built a vocational training center for BASCO, and the centre is intended to cater for training in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, hairdressing, and masonry.

Citi FM with the support of its listeners and various corporate organizations, made a cash donation, and also presented items worth thousands of Ghana cedis to the school.

Some of the items included toiletries, maize, rice, oil, mattresses, water, books, toys, biscuits, clothes, beverages among other things.

The company has also presented items and money to the two other orphanages, Mama Laadi in the Upper East Region, and the Handivangelism Orphanage at Haatso in Accra, as part of the 2017 event.

According to the Acting Managing Director at Voltic Ghana Limited, Raymond Gbetivi, the company made the donation as part of their corporate social responsibility.

Citi FM on Easter Monday, April 17, 2017, will be presenting the items and cash donations to some three orphanages it had adopted.

The station gave the orphanage 110 desks and 30 bunk beds with support from its cherished listeners and its staff.

The station received cash donations from its listeners per an appeal it made to them to help provide the orphanage with such facilities.

Donating the items to the management of BASCO, the Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at Citi FM, Mrs. Jennifer Anane-Nsiah said the facilities would go a long way in positively affecting the lives of children at BASCO.

“We all know what sleep is to the human being, not having a good night sleep would certainly affect the rest of your day. So we did what we do best; through radio advocacy we were able to raise funds from our listeners. We believe that the 110 desks and 30 bunk beds would go a long way to affect lives.”

“I would also like to thank all our listeners and staff for coming with such speed and love to give us the money that was needed to get the furniture done and we believe that the next time we call on them, they will not fail us,” she added.

The Administrator at Citi FM, Mr. Matthew Idun also urged authorities of the orphanage to use the facilities for the purposes to which they were provided.

He also admonished the children to take their studies seriously and become useful to the society and further thanked listeners of Citi FM for supporting them undertake the project.

“The welfare of the children here are very dear to our hearts. Our listeners are observing and they want to see these children being educated. That is why they helped with his project,” he added.

For his part, the Principal of BASCO, Archbishop Victory Ofori-Amoah expressed gratitude to Citi FM for the donation.

“I want to say a big thank you to every person who contributed to this donation. We thank Citi FM for making this commitment come to pass. We appreciate what you have done for us and we say may the good Lord richly bless Citi FM and all its listeners and all those who contributed to this work. I know the kids will surely study very well for the glory of the Lord.”

Citi FM has over the last decade extended support to the Baptist School Complex and Orphanage (BASCO) at Trotor in the Eastern Region, Handivangelism at Haatso in Accra and Mama Laadi at Bolgatanga in Upper East region.
