A cruciate ligament injury suffered while representing Ghana in the opening match of Afcon 2017 has kept the budding talent out for well over a year.

During that spell Schalke have fired Markus Weinzierl, the manager who orchestrated his loan from parent club Chelsea coach and appointed Domenico Tedesco in his place.

He will also face quite the task to dislodge Sporting CP fullback Lumor Agbenyenu who has featured consistently since the re-appointment of Kwesi Appiah as head coach of the Black Stars.

The man himself does not seem burdened with what the future holds and just wants to enjoy his football now that his injury nightmare is over.

“I hope that in the next few days I will become an option for the coach but he will decide when it’s the right time.

“In the last couple of weeks I have worked hard to catch up because I was lacking strength and power.

Despite a number of setbacks during the recovery process,he insists that both the physical and psychological burden that accompanies a long term injury of this nature are firmly behind him.

“The injury doesn’t give me anymore problems, it doesn’t hurt me anymore and even mentally it doesn’t affect me.” he stated.

He is expected to play a role as Schalke look to make an appearance in the DFB-Pokal final.

The Ghana international has not played a competitive game since tearing his cruciate ligament on international duty with Ghana in last year’s AFCON.

Chelsea and Schalke have reportedly agreed to a loan deal for the defender, although details concerning the length of the agreement are unknown.

Schalke Sporting Director Christian Heidel said on Thursday following the medical, “It looks like we can bring together what Chelsea envisioned, and what FC Schalke imagined.”

He will be Schalke’s third signing in the winter transfer window after Cedric Teuchert and Marko Pjaca joined from FC Nuremberg and Juventus respectively and is expected to begin training with the German side next week.

Rahman joined Chelsea for £14million from Augsburg in 2015 but didn’t impress Antonio Conte, who promptly brought in Marcos Alonso.

The Ghanaian, however, showed glimpses of returning to his best with Schalke in the first half of the season before picking up a knee injury while on duty with Ghana during the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

With the Ghanaian in the last phase of his recovery, clubs are beginning to hone in again for his service.

Schalke have stayed in contact and want him back for the summer, although both Everton and AC Milan are thought to have made enquiries.

Ronald Koeman has contacted the player on his desire to have him for next season but that could just be a month late with the player all but certain on returning to Schalke for unfinished business.

What is more, Kotoko Management has agreed financial terms with Managers of Techiman City on the player.

The official signing is expected in a couple of days.

The young, versatile offensive player was with two companions as he went through the various medical tests conducted by the Kotoko medical team at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital on Friday afternoon.

Physiotherapist, Jerry Newton Pratt who led the process told Asantekotokosc.com that, his process was smooth. Kotoko are bent on improving the team ahead of the coming season.

The coming of Baba Mahama strengthens the quest to put the team into good shape for the 2016/17 season.

He will be the fifth player to join Kotoko after the signing of Prince Acquah and Isaac Quansah both from Hearts of Lions, Olennu Ashietey, Hearts of Oak and Kwame Boahene from Medeama.
