The NPP Communications Director of the Akwatia Constituency Obeng Dankwa had earlier alleged that Baba Jamal had failed to fulfill his promise of constructing the Akwatia funeral grounds and a link road from Philadelphia to Kade.

But speaking on Citi FM’s Campaign Trail on Tuesday night, the Deputy Employment Minister, Baba Jamal said he never made those promises, adding that he had fulfilled the specific promises he made to residents in the constituency.

“…I have never come out to say that I am going to construct the Akwatia funeral grounds …This is the first time that I am hearing that I am going to construct the link road between Philadalpheia and Kade.

“What I promised and let me make it clear is the Akwatia road and as I talk to you now, constructors are in town who have started constructing the Akwatia town. I can show you whatsapp pictures indicating that Akwatia road has started.”

Poor roads 

Residents in the area have expressed concerns about the poor state of roads in the constituency.

A resident in the area who spoke to Citi News’ Kojo Agyeman complained about the situation, saying the incumbent Member of Parliament  had failed to fulfill promises he made.

” I will not vote for NDC because what the MP promised he has not done. He has not constructed the roads and  bridge too,” the resident said.

“He has made a lot of promises but we have not seen any of the promises being implemented in the constituency,” another complained.

According to the Regional Chairman, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) female parliamentary nominee, Mercy Adu-Gyamfi, lacks the qualities needed to become a Member of Parliament. He alleged that the NPP’s female nominee cannot  even prepare good soup.

“This year, John Mahama will continue and Baba Jamal will also continue. People are saying a woman is contesting here; but we all know that not all women are women. There are some women whose soup tastes good and some who cannot even cook; but as for this Akwatia woman her soup is not tasty at all.”

Speaking at the campaign launch of Baba Jamal in Akwatia, Tawiah Boateng also accused the former NPP MP, Akomen Kessi, of not executing a single project in the constituency.

“I am a Regional Chairman. Hon Kessi is also a Regional Chairman. I am throwing a challenge to him that we should both meet at any radio station so that he tells us what development he brought to the Eastern Region and Akwatia when they were in power. He was an MP in Akwatia. He should point to any projects he undertook. He was an MP in Akwatia before Baba Jamal came but he can’t compete with Baba Jamal.”

This is not the first time electorates in the constituency have been advised not to vote for Madam Adu-Gyamfi.

NPP’s hairdresser can’t be an MP – Baba Jamal

In June 2016, Baba Jamal similarly advised some electorates in the constituency not to endorse Madam Adu-Gyamfi’s candidature, describing her as a mere hairdresser.

He was reported to have stated that, Adu-Gyamfi, is not good enough to execute the duties of a Member of Parliament, as a hairdresser.

Baba Jamal further noted that, unlike him who is a professional politician and a lawyer, the NPP aspirant would not be able to catch up with the proceedings of the house and lobby for development for the area.
