Black Stars Captain Asamoah Gyan has hit out at his critics saying he is Black Stars captain by divine appointment.

The all time leading goal scorer for the Black Stars has recently been at the end of some harsh comments from various figures in the football world including former Ghana forward Prince Tagoe who said Essien or Muntari, and not Gyan, should have been made captain after Stephen Appiah’s retirement.

Gyan, 32, posted a 5-minute-long video on his instagram page venting his anger at his critics.

“All those people who wish my downfall and curse me, just look at their lives and where their lives are heading to. Because God knows I have a pure heart,” he said.

“I have a pure heart. My heart is so clean but they don’t know. I am progressing and they need to be asking me how I made it this far. This is true talk.

“God made me the captain of Ghana. You can have your own opinion but whether you like it or not, I am captain of Ghana and God put me there, not any human.”

Gyan has had a tumultuous reign as Black Stars captain and has been caught in the middle of a number of scandals including being threatened with a sex tape blackmail in 2015.

Citi Business News has learnt that local airline company, Baby Jet Airlines should commence operations by next year barring any major changes to its plan.

The start of the company’s operations will however be subject to maximum cooperation with the industry regulators within the said time frame.

The Director General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Simon Allotey confirmed the airline’s cooperation so far to Citi Business News.

“If the company works very hard and their manuals are found satisfactory and they have the aircraft they intend to operate and assuming all things are in place, then within six months they can complete the certification process,” he said.

Baby Jet Airlines, owned by Black Stars Captain Asamoah Gyan, has since commenced processes to obtain an Air Operator’s Certificate.

This comes after being granted an Air Carrier License some couple of months ago.

The process to secure an Air Operator Certificate comprises about five separate steps.

These range from providing business operation manuals, aircraft acquisition, crew and management information, among others.

Mr. Allotey however maintains that most airline companies have been compelled to delay the process during stages where they need to acquire airlines.

“Sometimes some of these airlines go through phases one to three and delay at the fourth phase because they delay in acquiring aircrafts. But mostly on the average, most of the airlines take twelve to eighteen months to complete the process,” he added.

Baby Jet Airlines will be the third local airline when it eventually rolls out.

The Director General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Simon Allotey explains that the move should also boost domestic air travel.

Black Stars Head Coach Kwesi Appiah has said that captain Asamoah Gyan will continue leading the team for the time being.

Gyan has captained the Black Stars since 2012 when he was given the role by Kwesi Appiah during his first stint with the national team.

Gyan has since gone on to captain the team at four AFCON tournaments and one World Cup, as well as becoming the country’s all time leading goal scorer during that period.

Many questions have been raised over the 31-year old’s ability to continue to carry out the task as team leader as his fitness has been a huge problem in recent times, but Kwesi Appiah, said he is still keeping faith with the former Udinese man.

“Asamoah is the captain now, and until I say he is not he will remain so. Everybody plays a captain’s role in my team.”

“Defenders talk and control the midfielders, and midfielders control the attackers. So everybody is a captain in my team, and the players are aware of this,” he told Accra based Metro TV.

Gyan earlier this week revealed that he plans to retire after the 2019 AFCON tournament.

Moments after President Nana Akufo-Addo announced on Thursday that Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, has obtained a license to operate a new airline to be known as Baby Jet Airlines, some fraudsters have positioned themselves to take advantage of the yet-to-be launched airline, by posing as recruitment agents to offer people jobs with the airline.

The fraudsters are reportedly taking money from unsuspecting Ghanaians under the pretext of offering them employment in the company.

The Black Stars skipper who made this known in a tweet, urged Ghanaians to be wary of the activities of the fraudsters.

He, however asked persons seeking information about the business to contact his manager, Anim Addo.

Kindly ignore any social media page talking about recruitment 4 BBJ, its a scam, if you need info contact my team and @AnimSammy –  Asamoah Gyan tweeted.

He also expressed his appreciation to President Akufo-Addo for the support and described the acknowledgement by the president as a “call to hardwork”.

asamoah-gyan-tweet

Thanks President NAkufoAddo, this is a call to work hard with my team to make the BBJ airline dream a reality soonest and create jobs.

President Akufo-Addo at the 2017 African Airshow at the Kotoka International Airport, announced that government had given Asamoah Gyan license to operate the airline.

Reports suggest that, the company will commence operations with cargo handling, before expanding subsequently to airlift travelers.

It is however unclear whether the Airline will be solely focused on domestic travels and cargo handling, or will operate within the sub-region or serve as an international airline.

The news comes after an announcement by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government that it is opening up Ghana’s aviation industry to attract more players and drive competition.

The airline, Baby Jet Airlines,  is expected to commence operations soon.

[contextly_sidebar id=”9cdAle4dvX977k82FhwR3KurmOWJdW6j”]This was announced by President Akufo-Addo at the 2017 African Airshow at the Kotoka International Airport.

Reports suggest that the company will commence operations with cargo handling, before expanding subsequently to airlift travelers.

It is, however, unclear whether the Airline will be solely focused on domestic travels and cargo handling, or will operate within the sub-region or serve as an international airline.

The news comes after an announcement by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government that it is opening up Ghana’s local airline industry to attract more players and drive competition.

President Akufo-Addo in his address at the airshow said, “I’ve been reliable informed that the Captain of our senior national football team, the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan, Baby Jet has obtained an air carrier license and is working feverishly to establish an airline, obviously called Baby Jet airlines. I want to call on other Ghanaians both home and abroad to invest in the rapidly growing aviation sector.”

Domestic airfare drops… as 17.5% VAT is removed

The measures included a removal of the 17.5% VAT on domestic air tickets.

Also, efforts have been made to keep the price of aviation fuel at competitive rates in relation to Ghana’s peers within the sub-region.

President Akufo Addo has also set an ambitious target to make Ghana an aviation hub within the West African sub-region.

About 126 exhibitors and 300 African and International attendees are participating in the 3-day event which opened on Tuesday, October 24, 2017.

Black Stars Captain, Asamoah Gyan, has expressed his resentment towards referee Daniel Bennett’s decision to disallow a goal scored by the Black Stars in a crucial 2018 World Cup Qualifier game against Uganda on Saturday.

Gyan, who says he is “furious” over the development is asking the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to formally protest the action of the referee.

The linesman’s flag denied the Black Stars a late winner in the 93rd minute after Raphael Dwamena hit the back of the Ugandan net from a rebound off the goalkeeper.

The referee claimed the striker was in an offside position, although replays of the incident indicated otherwise.

Many Ghanaians have taken to social media to vent their anger over the decision although the goal will not significantly affect the Black Stars’ chances of qualifying for the World Cup.

Asamoah Gyan, who could not feature in the game due to an injury tweeted hours after the game that “we have to protest..”

“How on earth can this goal be disallowed? we have to protest.. this no “fa ma Nyame” matter… I’m so furious,” he tweeted.

Ghana was also denied what many thought was a clear penalty in the second-half of the game.

The game ended 0-0 leaving Ghana in 3rd place in the group with 6 points against Uganda’s 8 at 2nd position with Egypt leading the group with 12 points.

He urged them to work harder to enable them maintain the intensity.

“We have a lot of hungry players that are eager to die for the nation and that is what we saw. The boys did so well and they have made the nation proud.”

“We have to keep on supporting them till we get there because this is just the beginning. We cannot judge them with just one game and we have to make sure they are consistent.”

“Everything is going to be fine because we have started a good journey despite our slim chance of qualifying. The new boys need to be encouraged,” he told reporters after the match.

Gyan is slated to miss up to three weeks of football with a groin strain he picked up in the first leg against Congo in Kumasi.
