The project, which was executed with technical supports from Tera-Hydro Association and Agric Extension officers in Hohoe, is in line with the company’s goals to contribute to the economy through agro based and social intervention programmes that supports the livelihoods of the farmers that grow brewing crops.

“We don’t want farming to be limited to only the raining season, we want farming to be throughout the year. When that happens we believe that the livelihoods of people would be improved and their income level would improve” Jerry Goka, Senior Brands Manager at ABL told citinews.

The borehole has capacity feeding about a hectare of land at a rate of 50litres per minute and would also serve as drinking water for the people.

The Volta region is one of the leading producers of cassava and farmers in Gbi-Avega are among the major out growers of the cash crop.

Jerry Goka noted that the Eagle Beer Brand originated from the Volta Region and Accra Brewery Limited has since depended largely on farmers in the region for the production of the beer.

The Volta Regional Minister Hellen Adjoa Ntosu who was present at the ceremony advised farmers to adopt climate smart technologies to ensure maximum use of lands and the water. She also advised residents along the eastern corridors of the region to desist from indiscriminate felling of trees which she said is contributing to global warming.
