Black Stars head coach Kwesi Appiah has handed an international debut for Malmo star Kingsley Sarfo for this afternoon’s World Cup qualifier against Uganda.

With Ghana needing to win to stand any chance of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and with several key players missing, Appiah has gone with a new look squad for today’s game.

Christian Atsu is out with a knee injury, defenders, Harrison Afful and Jonathan Mensah also missed the trip while Jordan and Andre Ayew were dropped from the squad.

Richmond Boakye-Yiadom who’s been in stunning form for SuperLiga team Red Star Belgrade, and has scored 30 goals this season, will start up front for the Black Stars with Captain Asamoah Gyan out with injury.

Richard Ofori retains his place in goal behind a centre-back pairing of  Nicholas Opoku and Daniel Amartey who will captain the team today.

Augsburg right-back Daniel Opare returns to the first team for the first time since the 2014 World Cup while Lumor Agbenyenu starts at left back for the Stars

Alfred Duncan and Ebenezer Ofori join four-goal hero against Congo, Thomas Partey in central midfield, with Partey expected to play as the most advanced of the three.

Kingsley Sarfo and Frank Acheampong will provide support down the wings for the Black Stars

Black Stars vice captain Andre Ayew has assured that the team will be on their A game when they come up against Congo at the Baba Yara Stadium on Friday in their 2018 World Cup qualifier.

The Black Stars have lost considerable ground on rivals Egypt in Group E with just a point from their opening two games, but still have an outside chance of qualifying for the tournament provided they win all their remaining games and results elsewhere go their way.

Ayew says the players fully understand what is expected of them and will go all out on Friday.

“We need the points not only for the fans but for ourselves too. We cannot have any other result but a win or we can say we are out of the World Cup,” he said.

“We are expecting a win, and we are going to make sure we get it for the nation and the fans. We are going to make sure we win the next two games.”

Ghana will travel to Brazzaville for the return fixture on September 5.

About five hundred youth from some communities in Birim North district in the Eastern Region on Monday demonstrated against mining company Newmont Ghana Gold.

The demonstrators claim Newmont Ghana has not fulfilled their promise of employing people from the communities.

They blocked the main road leading to the offices of the company as well as the mining sites in the area.

Speaking to Citi News, the leader of youth group , Seth Frimpong said Newmont Ghana’s promise to employ people from the area as well protect the environment has been a disappointment.

He further said Newmont was rather engaging people outside the community instead of the people within the community.

“In terms of employment when they posted the advert on the Notice Board people applied but they didn’t give them the chance to work,” he added.

He therefore called on Newmont to fulfill all promises it gave to the community.

In 2013, 240 workers of Newmont Ghana were laid off due to low  price of gold on the world market and the escalating cost of doing business in Ghana.

Newmont in a bid to ensure efficiency also announced plans of laying off about 600 workers by June this year.

The Mine Workers Association, among others however criticized the decision, describing it as having no moral basis.

Newmont Ghana operates the Ahafo Mine in the Brong-Ahafo Region and the Akyem Mine in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region.
