{"id":98946,"date":"2015-03-13T06:15:09","date_gmt":"2015-03-13T06:15:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=98946"},"modified":"2015-03-13T06:15:09","modified_gmt":"2015-03-13T06:15:09","slug":"i-am-not-surprised-by-ruling-on-woyomes-case-ayikoi-otoo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=98946","title":{"rendered":"I am not surprised by ruling on Woyome&#8217;s case &#8211; Ayikoi Otoo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A former Attorney General, Ayikoi Otoo has dismissed criticisms\u00a0against the Judge who presided over the GHC51 million judgment debt case against\u00a0businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;ZbDK6wtmIZbY7MRQIlYciQaDLX8z7sC7&#8243;]The judge, Justice Ajet-Nasam acquitted and discharged Mr. Woyome on Thursday, as according to him, the prosecution failed to provide enough evidence to prosecute the case.<\/p>\n<p>He indicted the prosecution saying they did a very poor job on the case, questioning why key witnesses like former Attorney General Betty Mould Iddrisu and others were not brought in as witnesses.<\/p>\n<p>The ruling has however drawn <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/03\/12\/state-prosecutors-helped-woyome-the-thief-rawlings\/#sthash.moZdp2gW.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>massive criticism<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">from many Ghanaians<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>However speaking on <strong>Eyewitness News<\/strong>, the former Attorney General\u00a0said he was not scandalised by the ruling since the judge&#8217;s decision was based on evidence available to him.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/woyome-in-court1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-98828 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/woyome-in-court1.jpg\" alt=\"woyome in court\" width=\"479\" height=\"330\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf a judge has said I am not satisfied that a prosecution has proved a case beyond reasonable doubt I don\u2019t see why I should be scandalised when indeed I have not seen evidence&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Otoo\u00a0pointed out that he will go along with the ruling until &#8220;there is evidence that the Judge did not draw the proper inferences that he ought to have drawn from the evidence that was given.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He further charged the various institutions involved in the case to weigh the evidence they have and take their decisions appropriately.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Allow AG<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Ayikoi Otoo has emphasized the need for the Attorney General to be allowed to <a href=\"The%20Attorney General and Minister for Justice Marietta Brew-Appiah Oppong told graphiconline.com that \u201cWe disagree completely with the judgment of the court.\u201d \u201cWe are applying for a copy of the judgement, study it carefully and appeal accordingly,\u201d Mrs Appiah-Opong added. - See more at: http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/03\/12\/ag-to-appeal-woyomes-acquittal-and-discharge\/#sthash.SKHmAgHT.dpuf\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>appeal Woyome&#8217;s ruling.<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Attorney General and Minister for Justice Marietta Brew-Appiah Oppong told graphiconline.com that \u201cWe disagree completely with the judgment of the court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are applying for a copy of the judgement, study it carefully and appeal accordingly,\u201d Mrs Appiah-Opong added.<\/p>\n<p>Giving his perspective on the AG&#8217;s decision, Ayikoi Otoo said\u00a0&#8220;If the AG intends to file the appeal let her do it.
