The lead Counsel for businessman, Alfred Woyome, has advised ex-President John Rawlings to maintain his reputation by refraining from making unsavoury comments about his client.<\/p>\n
According to Ahmed Musah, the state is not a useless institution which will \u201cleave thieves to roam about. You can\u2019t call somebody a thief when you don\u2019t have evidence.\u201d<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”HxAsAyebFJAG7YKQKgCJRmqL8WEHPqtu”]Following a High Court decision to\u00a0acquit and discharg<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0Mr. Woyome in the GHC51 million judgment debt case, an obviously angry Rawlings, accused the state prosecutors of helping Woyome to walk free<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n He said:\u00a0\u201cThe extent of corruption I have been talking about. I just read that the thief called Woyome had been freed. Why because his accomplices [Betty Mould and one other person] who were in government were not produced in court for vital evidence to incriminate him.\u201d<\/p>\n Reacting to the comment on Eyewitness News,<\/strong> Woyome\u2019s lawyer said it is rather unfortunate\u00a0when respectable and responsible persons in society speak against court judgments.<\/p>\n He warned that it is wrong to call a person a thief when there is no evidence to prove such\u00a0claims, adding that, \u201cthere was no charge of stealing against him\u2026but I don\u2019t think that a very respectable person will call someone a thief when he has no evidence to buttress that.\u201d<\/p>\n Ahmed Musah pointed out that Mr. Rawlings\u2019 comment is \u201cvery defamatory for Mr. Woyome\u201d especially when\u00a0 it is coming from a former President.<\/p>\n \u201cHe [Rawlings] has so much respect in society and he shouldn\u2019t dent it. I won\u2019t be happy if I hear people call him a thief. In fact, I have defended him on many occasions when people make accusations against him. He shouldn\u2019t do that.\u201d<\/p>\n He said they will take Ex-President Rawlings\u2019 comment as a \u201cpolitical statement but it is not fair for him to say that.\u201d<\/p>\n Asked whether his client, Mr. Woyome will consider\u00a0sueing the former President over the matter, lawyer Musah said: \u201cIt is a decision entirely within his [Woyome] right to say that we should take an action against him.\u201d<\/p>\n He however advised Mr. Woyome not to consider suing the former President because \u201cI call it an irresponsible statement so there is no need for us to even go against him in court.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe court has spoken and everybody is supposed to obey the decision of the court. That is what the constitution says\u2026so who are you to sit on the fence and make a conclusion?
