{"id":9524,"date":"2014-03-29T06:35:53","date_gmt":"2014-03-29T06:35:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=9524"},"modified":"2014-03-29T06:35:53","modified_gmt":"2014-03-29T06:35:53","slug":"mahama-hasnt-breached-the-law-by-farming-ayikoi-otoo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=9524","title":{"rendered":"Mahama hasn&#8217;t breached the law by farming &#8211; Ayikoi Otoo"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_6760\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6760\" style=\"width: 469px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/ayikoi.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6760\" alt=\"Ayikoi Otoo\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/ayikoi.jpg\" width=\"469\" height=\"310\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/ayikoi.jpg 469w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/ayikoi-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 469px) 100vw, 469px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6760\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ayikoi Otoo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A Former Attorney General under the Kufuor adminstration, Ayikoi Otoo has defended President John Dramani Mahama\u2019s decision to file his tax returns from his book \u2013 &#8220;My First Coup D\u2019etat and a family farming business&#8221;, saying, his action is not a breach of the constitution.<\/p>\n<p>Article 68, 1a of the 1992 constitution, states that \u201cthe president shall not, while he continues to be in office as president hold any other office of profit or emolument whether private or public and whether directly or indirectly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The President on Thursday filed his tax returns and reiterated the need for Ghanaians to pay their taxes regularly to the state, to enable the government to embark on socio-economic development infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Some political and social commentators\u00a0have questioned the President\u2019s decision to pay taxes on a farm saying he is not allowed to engage in such ventures while he is in office.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on <strong>Eyewitness News<\/strong>, Mr Ayikoi Otoo explained that the President would have breached the law if only he paid his taxes while holding a position in a profit making organization.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat the President is telling us is that he is engaged in some family activities from which he earns income\u2026if we can show that he is the Chairman of GOIL, or the Managing Director of a private bank from which he is paid, it means he is holding another office from which he is gaining his monument.But with this, he claims that there is some business activity in Agric that he is just involved in.
