President John Dramani Mahama has promised to end the energy crisis facing the nation.<\/p>\n
Speaking during the State of the Nation Address\u00a0 in Parliament on Thursday, President Mahama said he will fix the problem.<\/p>\n
The President said in the past, governments have managed our way out of the energy crisis but he plans to end it.<\/p>\n
\u201cI do not intend to manage the situation. I intend to fix it. I John Dramani Mahama will fix the energy situation.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to him, Ghana will need to double power production every eight years to meet the demands of citizens.<\/p>\n
Ghana has been experiencing an energy crisis which has led to severe load-shedding exercise.<\/p>\n
The Mahama government has come under criticism for failing to reduce the impact of the power crisis, which officials say is caused by a shortage in power generation.<\/p>\n
However the President on Thursday \u00a0outlined a number of measures his government is undertaking to end the current power crisis.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe’re working on a proposal to make solar energy available to micro-enterprises & household.\u00a0We are working on a proposal that would make solar power available to barbers, hairdressers, dressmakers and other such micro entrepreneurs.”<\/p>\n
He added that the \u201cnew Ministry of power is working on proposals to restructure the power sector beginning with the VRA and the Bui Power Authority.\u201d<\/p>\n
President Mahama said he will hold the Power Minister to his publicly stated deadline \u00a0to fix the power situation by the end of 2015.<\/p>\n
He commended the Energy Commission for their initiative to replace old refrigerators with energy efficient ones.<\/p>\n
