{"id":9412,"date":"2014-03-28T12:58:13","date_gmt":"2014-03-28T12:58:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=9412"},"modified":"2014-03-28T15:23:50","modified_gmt":"2014-03-28T15:23:50","slug":"ministry-begins-investigating-murder-of-a-ghanaian-in-qatar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=9412","title":{"rendered":"Ministry begins investigating murder of a Ghanaian in Qatar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><figure id=\"attachment_9413\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9413\" style=\"width: 680px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/qatar1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9413\" alt=\"Matthew and Grace Huang were accused of starving their adopted daughter Gloria to death\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/qatar1.jpg\" width=\"680\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/qatar1.jpg 680w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/qatar1-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9413\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Matthew and Grace Huang[foster parents] were accused of starving the Gloria to death<\/figcaption><\/figure>The Department for Social Welfare has begun investigations into how a Ghanaian child was murdered by her foster American parents in Qatar.<\/p>\n<p>The couple, Matthew and Grace Huang was found guilty of deliberately starving the nine-year-old girl from Ghana to death.<\/p>\n<p>It is believed they intended to harvest her organs for sale.<\/p>\n<p>A court in Qatar sentenced the couple to three years in prison and also imposed a fine of $4,120 on them.<\/p>\n<p>The couple have denied the accusation describing it as &#8220;ridiculous&#8221; and that Gloria died from complications related to an eating disorder.<\/p>\n<p>According an official at the Department for Social Welfare told <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, they are working to determine if the couple went through the appropriate procedures to adopt the child.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister of Gender Children and Social Protection, Nana Oye Lithur in August last year, ordered a moratorium on adoption in Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>According to the sector Minister, the Ministry took the decision because it detected that about 19 illegal adoption agencies were operating in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Statistics from the Ministry also indicated that over 1,000 children were adopted in Ghana between 2009 and 2011 and most of them were sent to foreign countries.<\/p>\n<p>The couple and their three young children &#8211; Gloria and two boys &#8211; moved to Qatar in 2012 when Mr Huang, an engineer, got a job working on a construction project for the 2022 Fifa World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>He and his wife were arrested in January 2013 after Gloria died in hospital after having not eaten for four days<\/p>\n<p>By: Nana Boakye-Yiadom\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Department for Social Welfare has begun investigations into how a Ghanaian child was murdered by her foster American parents in Qatar.
