I’ll come to why I agree with her but what really surprises me or shall I say, what her remarks has taught me is that there are so many Christians who are immature and ignorant about their faith.I say they are immature because the Bible in 2 Timothy 3:25 says “Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to acknowledge of the truth”.[contextly_sidebar id=”E7VF4zu3Cbo6QTTJwcwbScxWwXAfvuoK”]It also says in 1 Peter 3:15 that “in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect”.Contrary to what these two scriptures clears require Christians to do, the commentary from most Christians – at least for those I read – were distasteful and disrespectful, to say the least.

Even putting the Bible aside, what really she said and the way she said it does not warrant any backlash of insults as were hurled against her person or personality.

When asked if she believes in Jesus, she said and I quote, “wow, well I don’t want to offend anybody. I used to believe in it [the story] but I did my own research and I think it was made up… I think it was made up. I might be wrong but according to my own research, I think it was made up because the same story 5000 years ago happened in Egypt where they had Horus.

Horus mother was a virgin. Before Horus’ mother was born, an angel came and said ‘dadada’ to Horus’mother. Horus did miracles at the age of 12.

He had disciples…”So obviously she was expressing her thoughts genuinely as she found from her research. And in all fairness she made her point respectfully. With such decorum, it is only right and reasonable that if we disagree with her we do so in the same spirit.

That is to say that even if she is wrong she deserves insight into the truth rather than the insults that were open on her. We can disagree without being disagreeable. The reason I also said most Christians who attacked her are ignorant is because they do not even know what is written in their own Bible.

If you are one of those may I ask you this. Did you know that there are four ‘Jesuses’ in the Bible and even a fifth one the Bible warns about?
Well, if you care to know there is Jesus who was crucified (the one most of us know), then there is Bar-Jesus, the Jewish sorcerer and false prophet mentioned in Acts 13:6.

There is also Jesus who is called Justus in Colossians 4:11 and Jesus (also called Barabas), who was set free instead of “Jesus called the Christ” (Matt 27:17). The fifth Jesus whom the Bible refers to as “another Jesus” I believe fits in the description of Mzbel (2 Cor 11:4).I guess you now understand why I say Mzbel is right. Let me put it this way.

The Jesus Mzbel talked about is “another Jesus” who is not the true Jesus as we, who are true disciples, know. Her Jesus is a product of conspiracies. The true Jesus, who is the Christ of Christianity, “was, and is and who is to come” (Revelations 1:8).Her story of Jesus was makeup! Now, having talked about the issues surrounding her remarks let’s look at the substance of her remarks. For the purpose of discussion, let’s assume that she is referring to the true Jesus, the one that I believe in (and who is God incarnate according to Hebrews 1:3).Respectfully, Mzbel claims that the story or person of Jesus was made up because to her it shares exactness with the story of Horus.

I’m not sure if Mzbel has read about the similarities or coincidence between the two Presidents: Abraham Lincoln and John F Kennedy. There are many similarities but I’ll list just few. Both presidents were elected to the House of Representatives in ’46.Both presidents were elected to the presidency in ’60.Both their predecessors left office in their seventies and retired to Pennsylvania. Both presidents were concerned with the problems of black Americans and made their views strongly known in ’63.Both presidents were shot on a Friday in the presence of their wives. Both Fridays preceded a major holiday observed within the week. Both presidents were accompanied by another couple. Both presidents had a son die during their presidency.

Both presidents’ last names have 7 letters. Both Johnsons succeeded as President in ’69 by Republicans whose mothers were named Hannah. Both assassins died in the same month as their victim in a state adjacent to the state of their birth. Both assassins were Southern white males born in the late ’30s, who were in their mid-20s.

Both assassins were killed before being tried, by men who were reared in the North, changed their name as adults, and were bachelors.

And both assassins had 15 letters in their name (Source Wikipedia).Yet are these similarities enough to say that Abraham Lincoln is the same as John F Kennedy or that the story of Abraham Lincoln was ‘made up’? Certainly not! No school of cogent reasoning would say that because B shares similarities or many things in common with A and A came first in time, it means B is a fabrication of A.

That would be a fallacy! But that also aside, let’s juxtapose the story of Horus with that of Jesus Christ to see which is one is fable or fact.As it were, both Jesus and Horus were born by virgin mothers. How do we verify these two?Well, anyone who knows about Jewish antiquity or history would know Titus Flavius Josephus, at least so Ithink. Josephus was a historian who was born 37 AD and who wrote about, not only the person of Jesus but about events, which really took place before and during Jesus’ time.Interestingly, he was not a Christian but a pagan and sowas Tacitus, another historian who also wrote independently about events during that time.Josephus’ works are largely accepted in theological and historical circles because of the verifiability, comprehensiveness, methodology he employed in gathering his data.

He wrote not from his memory but based on manuscript account, witnesses testimonies and archeological remains. If you lived around that time, the question was not about whether Christ existed or not. That would be ridiculous to ask.

If anything it would be whether or not he died, which is a subject for another discussion (1 Cor. 15:14). Understandably, it’s those who were born 500 years after, who are questioning whether Jesus really lived. It might interest you to know that here is no canonical or verifiable account of Horus. What we know are hearsays, which were put in writing, but even that I am not willing or able to say its myth or fiction. Even if it’s proved to be true,it’s irrelevant to my faith (Unless you can show to me otherwise).

GeraldMassey, the man who opened this whole Pandora’s box about Jesus being a fictitious character, in his book The Natural Genesis barely had any credible scholarship or recorded evidence to support or substantiate those claims. The only reference Massey and his followers usually give is the ‘Book of the Dead’purported to have been written 1280 BC.

But the reality is that there is no one book called “Book of the Dead” There are many books with that name. In any case Books of the Dead are “collections of ancient Egyptian spells that were believed to help the deceased on their journey to the afterlife. The title Book of the Dead comes from an Arabic label referring to the fact that the books were mostly found with mummies (cf. The Oxford Guide to Egyptian Mythology, “Funerary Literature”).

Gerald Massey work is fraught with many errors. For instance he claims that Jesus Christ was born on December 25 which according to him was also the date on which Horus was born. But truth be told nowhere in the New Testament is it stated that Jesus was born December 25.

The New Testament doesn’t give any date. The closest value we get from the New Testament is that Jesus Christ was born “while shepherds were keeping watch over their flocks at night” (Luke 2:8).

December 25 is obviously winter season and no shepherds then and now watch their flocks at night in the cold. Christians celebrate the birth of Christ on December 25 but that’s only a date they choose to observe his birth.

He also said “Herod the Great” was also based on a myth. But the existence of ‘Herod the Great’ can and has been established without reliance on Christian sources. This is mention a few of the many erroneous assertions Massey made.
So, if Mzbel would have believe that the story was really made up, she should come out openly about her references from which she drew those conclusions and prove the Bible wrong as many have tried in time past but to no avail.

Until then, I will continue to let “God [Jesus] be true and every man a liar” (Romans 3:4).

–

By: Dan Thompson (A Christian apologist in the making)
Email: danitomi2000@yahoo.com

Well this week, Mzbel, a celebrated Ghanaian singer, came under fire when she reportedly made some remarks to the effect that the person or story of Jesus was made up.
