{"id":92744,"date":"2015-02-19T06:23:28","date_gmt":"2015-02-19T06:23:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=92744"},"modified":"2015-02-19T06:23:48","modified_gmt":"2015-02-19T06:23:48","slug":"oteng-adjei-cruising-in-lexus-bought-with-electricity-cash-kt-hammond","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=92744","title":{"rendered":"Former Minister still using Rural electricity cash vehicle \u2013K.T Hammond"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Minority spokesperson on Energy, KT Hammond has revealed that the former Minister of Energy, Dr Joe Oteng Adjei is still using one of the luxurious vehicles that were bought with the money meant for electricity extension project.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;3kbYuqP1gzyXjmgWHx4NqKlPEzNjlro0&#8243;]He asserted that, \u201cMy understanding is that for all his worries, he [Dr Oteng Adjei] decided to keep one of the Lexus cars to himself. \u00a0As we talk Oteng Adjei is using one of them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Ministry of Power \u00a0justified the <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/02\/18\/power-ministry-justices-blowing-electricity-cash-on-luxurious-vehicles\/#sthash.y37h9cSQ.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>decision to purchase luxurious vehicles<\/strong><\/a><\/span>\u00a0 with money allocated for electricity expansion project saying it was necessary and that it saved the country $46 million following an audit of the project.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/02\/18\/energy-ministry-blows-cash-for-electricity-project-on-luxury-cars-audit-report\/#stha\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>According to an audit report<\/strong><\/a><\/span> presented to Parliament, the then Ministry of Energy and Petroleum spent $1,745, 159 on 38 luxurious vehicles from a US$350 million US EXIM facility meant to extend electricity to about 1,200 communities between 2010 and 2012.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Ministry of Power explained that negotiations for the project started in 2006 and ended in 2009 after going through cabinet and Parliament.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking on <strong>Eyewitness News<\/strong>, KT Hammond insisted that though the New Patriotic Party (NPP) initiated the US EXIM\u00a0facility it never included the purchasing of luxurious vehicles adding that \u201cwhat was brought to Parliament at the time did not include acquisition of Chrysler or Lexus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Lexus-LX570.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-92747\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Lexus-LX570.jpg\" alt=\"Lexus LX570\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe simply arranged for the EXIM Bank facility to get to the country\u2026so we can get several communities out of darkness,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI am aware that in 2009, there was a value for money exercise undertaken by NDC under the auspices of the then Minister of Energy, Dr Oteng Adjei. It was at this stage that there was a variation to the contract superintended over the Dr Oteng Adjei\u00a0 and his outfit indicated that they preferred to have Chryslers and Lexus.
