{"id":92593,"date":"2015-02-18T14:04:05","date_gmt":"2015-02-18T14:04:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=92593"},"modified":"2015-02-19T06:29:58","modified_gmt":"2015-02-19T06:29:58","slug":"npp-mps-boycott-parliamentary-sitting-for-w%c9%94n-gbo-demo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=92593","title":{"rendered":"NPP MPs boycott Parliamentary sitting for \u2018w\u0254n gbo\u2019 demo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Majority of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentarians boycotted Wednesday&#8217;s sitting and\u00a0joined the \u2018w\u0254n gbo\u2019\u00a0\u00a0demonstration.<\/p>\n<p>The NPP &#8216;dumsor&#8217; demonstration <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/02\/18\/photos-nana-addo-leads-npp-w%C9%94n-gbo-demo\/#sthash.mvhv6Uq3.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\">saw thousands of supporters\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/span>clad in black and red with placards singing and drumming as they marched through some principal streets of Accra.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/npp-demo-crowd.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-92532\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/npp-demo-crowd.jpg\" alt=\"npp demo crowd\" width=\"700\" height=\"620\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The party&#8217;s 2016 Presidential candidate, Nana Akufo Addo led the demonstration with support from other NPP stalwarts;Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, Kwabena Agyepong, Alan Kyeremanten, Fred Osare,\u00a0among others.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Nana-Addo-Demo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-92559\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Nana-Addo-Demo.jpg\" alt=\"Nana Addo Demo\" width=\"564\" height=\"423\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Pressure group Occupy Ghana <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/02\/17\/occupyghana-endorses-npps-w%C9%94n-gbo-demo\/#sthash.FWpFHezu.LFmONAWl.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>has also thrown its weigh<\/strong><\/span><\/a>t behind the NPP demonstration describing it as a step in the right direction.<\/p>\n<p>Ghana has been battling with inconsistent power supply for sometime now.<\/p>\n<p>The country&#8217;s sheds between 440 and 650 megawatts of power during off peak and peak periods due to challenges with power production.<\/p>\n<p>Two emergency power barges are being constructed by the government to generate 450 megawatts (MW) of power to stabilise energy<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/09\/08\/more-electricity-next-year-2-new-power-barges-being-built\/#sthash.AO8TviEh.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\"> supply in the country.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>President Mahama recently directed the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation(GNPC) \u00a0to provide funding for the project.<\/p>\n<p>The Africa Centre for Energy Policy(ACEP) is however <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/02\/17\/govt-lacks-proper-plans-for-emergency-power-barges-acep\/#sthash.tNApaVul.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\">skeptical government<\/span><\/a> can meet its objective of importing emergency power barges into the country.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reasons for the intensified load shedding:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. Asogli plant is down to half capacity which is equivalent to about 90 megawatts.<\/p>\n<p>2. Cenite; which is another thermal plant in Tema is also down meaning, the nation has lost 100 megawatts of power.<\/p>\n<p>3. TICO, was also down with one machine but came on last week and that was also another 100 megawatts.<\/p>\n<p>4. Low water levels in Akosombo<\/p>\n<p>5. Low water levels in Bui<\/p>\n<p>6.
