The Police have rejected claims by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that they attempted to sneak behind them to secure a court order to stop their \u201cW\u0254n Gbo\u201d demonstration, slated for Wednesday<\/strong><\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”Hr3ugVcMoULuditrEBro5Xg2aU0vrUmf”]The NPP\u2019s General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong at a press conference on Tuesday, accused the Police of attempting to prevent them from demonstrating<\/strong><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe police went behind us to take a court injunction but the court threw them out,\u201d he said adding that \u201cI have in my possession court documents relating to the injunction application.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, speaking on Eyewitness News<\/strong>, the Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohonu insisted\u00a0that \u201cit is not true\u2026We didn’t go to court to block tomorrow’s demonstration.\u201d<\/p>\n

He explained that going to court was in relation to disagreement on the specific routes the NPP intended to use for the demonstration.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey indicated that they will use the\u00a0Tudu, Rawling Park and then Bank of Ghana before coming to Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and then to the Hearts of Oak Park. We said no, it\u2019s not in order because it is really going to interfere with business in the business centre and also passing through Bank of Ghana which is a security zone. That is where we had disagreement over,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

DCOP Yohonu also added that they went to court to ensure that the NPP stick to the approved routes saying \u201chaving realized what happened in the situation of AFAG where the people defied the routes, \u00a0we decided that we have to go to court so that the court will make them stick to the routes that they gave to us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Police say the are fully prepared for tomorrow’s demonstration and urged the NPP to ensure that the protest is peaceful.<\/p>\n
