Let people not feel that they are not accountable to us\u2026already, there is so much despondency in the system\u2026these may not be ordinary times, we are in an emergency and this government has referred to this dumsor situation as an energy crisis,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mahama Ayariga has been engaged in war of words with the media after pressure was mounted on him to give a detailed account of the amount government spent during the just ended African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Equatorial Guinea.<\/p>\n<p>Although the Minister appeared before Parliament to give an account of the <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/02\/11\/govt-spent-almost-6m-on-afcon-2015-ayariga\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>amount government allocated for the tournament<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, he failed to give further details on how much was exactly spent.<\/p>\n<p>A further probe by the media angered the Minister who described some of the<a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/02\/12\/stop-asking-useless-questions-on-afcon-budget-ayariga-fumes\/#sthash.Q633Jxqq.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong> questions as \u2018useless\u2019.<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Defending his stance on the matter, Mahama Ayariga stated that it is <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/02\/14\/defiant-ayariga-media-treat-right-ill-treat-right\/#sthash.u45vjbf6.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>high time someone stood up against the media in Ghana,<\/strong><\/span><\/a> insisting that he has done no wrong.<\/p>\n<p>But speaking on<strong> Citi FM\u2019s<\/strong> news analysis programme, <em><strong>The Big Issue,<\/strong><\/em> Lawyer Oppong advised the Minister saying, \u201cpower is virtually taking him from one level that we all know him to a different level which is not good for him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He clarified that Ghanaians did not vote for any Minister, hence, Mr. Ayariga is a subordinate to the President and \u201chis acts are the acts of the President and so he cannot put out this kind of posture as if there is no need for accountability at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy money is maintaining you,\u201d he fumed, adding that, \u201c\u2026it is that which is paying you for you to perform your functions for us. In short, you are a servant and you should hold yourself as a servant only\u2026we are the masters and if you don\u2019t see yourself that way and you put up a posture that bothers on some exhibition of rude misconduct, it is very offensive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lawyer Oppong further advised the Sports Minister that \u201cwhatever you do, ask yourself \u2013 how will Allah see it? Will Allah approve that I should be this rude to the very people whom I\u2019m to serve?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also dared Ayariga to maintain his rude posturing towards the media in 2016 saying, \u201cI want Mr. Ayariga to maintain this same posture up to the end of 2016.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom January next year, ask these Ministers what everybody will agree to be a stupid question \u2013 they will carefully answer you and they will even congratulate you for asking them that question.
