{"id":91103,"date":"2015-02-12T19:32:03","date_gmt":"2015-02-12T19:32:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=91103"},"modified":"2015-02-12T19:43:43","modified_gmt":"2015-02-12T19:43:43","slug":"march-6-dumsor-demo-will-go-ahead-group-insists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=91103","title":{"rendered":"March 6 &#8216;dumsor&#8217; demo will go ahead \u2013 Group insists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A group calling itself Concerned Ghanaians says it will embark on a demonstration on March 6, 2015 despite a Police directive asking them to postpone the protest.<\/p>\n<p>The group, early on<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/02\/03\/group-to-demonstrate-on-6th-march-over-dumsor\/#sthash.FtS5m6dC.nmEU8yE7.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\"> notified the Police<\/a><\/strong><\/span> of their plans to protest the erratic power supply but the Police denied their request, citing the independence day celebration as a major reason for their decision.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/wpid-no-power-Load-shedding.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-80607\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/wpid-no-power-Load-shedding.jpg\" alt=\"wpid-no-power-Load-shedding\" width=\"480\" height=\"275\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/wpid-no-power-Load-shedding.jpg 480w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/wpid-no-power-Load-shedding-300x171.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;vKsPH9JAgHIUhFVk5jAHXechnZXO7tE4&#8243;]The police said they will be unable to provide the needed security to protect protesters and appealed to the group to re-schedule their demonstration.<\/p>\n<p>They have also issued <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/02\/12\/police-warns-group-not-test-patience\/#sthash.ZDbvQfMg.8KcqKt8u.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>a stern warning<\/strong><\/span><\/a> that they will not entertain any attempts to flout the directive on the said date.<\/p>\n<p>It however appears, the group is insistent on embarking on the planned mass protest on the scheduled date.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on <strong>Eyewitness News<\/strong>, spokesperson for the group, Offei Goodfellow said: \u201cbarring any problems, we are hitting the streets\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He wondered why the Police was preventing them from holding their protest when they had given them a 30-day notice instead of the normal 5-day notice period required for holding demonstrations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe in the rule of law&#8230;so I am at a loss when the Police say that we want to take the law into our own hands,\u201dGoodfellow added<\/p>\n<p>He was optimistic the group had not breached\u00a0 the law by deciding to hold its elections on Independence day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dI was even surprised when I saw the release from the Police that we are taking the law into our own hands and we are breaking the law&#8230;I don\u2019t know which part of the law we are breaking..\u201d he queried.<\/p>\n<p>He indicated that the group can go ahead with its demonstration since it had met \u201cevery detail and component\u201d of the Public Order Act that ought to be fulfilled before a demonstration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe that we are law abiding citizens&#8230; we think that we are doing the right thing and we have great respect for the Police.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Marian Efe Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A group calling itself Concerned Ghanaians says it will embark on a demonstration on March 6, 2015 despite a Police directive asking them to postpone the protest.
