The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) will soon roll out a training programme for student justices within the various tertiary institutions in the country.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”Q1wEWCE45c3fs0uGS2yFruy8EzFbiWfm”]This according to them, is to acquaint the student justices with the modern art and science of jurisprudence in order to increase their appreciation of the Ghana\u2019s judicial regime and thus guide them in the proper administration of justice in their respective institutions and beyond.<\/p>\n
The decision follows various litigations that usually characterize elections in most tertiary institutions in the country.<\/p>\n
According to Paul Addah, the Chief Justice of NUGS, \u201cdisputed elections remain the number one source of conflicts in most of our tertiary institutions today.\u201d<\/p>\n
This he said is because \u201cthe judicial systems in our educational institutions have not been able to properly check this rising worrying trend” adding that they are embarking on the move to afford them “the necessary progress in this regard.\u201d<\/p>\n
Justice Addah made this known while addressing the maiden edition of the National Student Justices\u2019 Conference held at the University of Cape Coast on Saturday.<\/p>\n
“We thought it expedient to, for the first time in the history of NUGS, create a platform like this and invite the relevant stakeholders especially the cr\u00e8mes de la cr\u00e8mes of our legal milieu who are mainly justices of the nation\u2019s superior court of judicature to educate us on what we need to know as far as this most important enterprise is concerned,” he noted.<\/p>\n
He further explained that \u201cour decision to rollout this novel project is premised on the fact that my colleagues and I in the judicial committee of NUGS hold a strong contention that the dispensation of justice is the single most important factor that has the tendency to make or unmake any society and for that matter educational establishments where most often than not, election related issues sometimes overwhelm us as a people.\u201d<\/p>\n
