A Kenyan Member of Parliament (MP) and three of his aides have been shot dead by some unknown assailants in the country’s capital Nairobi.<\/p>\n
The Police have described the incident as a “well planned” attack.<\/p>\n
The BBC reports that the MP, George Muchai, was driving home through the capital city when his vehicle collided with another vehicle at a roundabout.<\/p>\n
The assailants reportedly shot the four; Mr. Muchai, his two bodyguards and his driver at close range.\u00a0All the four died at the scene.<\/p>\n
Police said the assailants made away with a briefcase and the bodyguards’ pistols.<\/p>\n
Mr Muchai was a Member of Parliament for Kenya’s governing Jubilee Coalition and was elected for the first time two years ago.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, opposition leader Raila Odinga has condemned the attack.<\/p>\n
He was however quick to add that it was a result of the wider insecurity in Kenya.<\/p>\n
“Our country is bleeding and an atmosphere of fear and hopelessness is spreading from the unresolved murders and deaths,” Mr Odinga said in a statement<\/p>\n
Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta \u00a0was also shocked by the attack.<\/p>\n
He described Mr. Muchai as a “true servant of the people”<\/p>\n
Militant groups have been launching attacks in the country in recent times.<\/p>\n
In September 2013, the country’s capital suffered an attack which led to the death of a\u00a0former member of Ghana’s Council of State, Kofi Awoonor .<\/p>\n
He was among those killed in an attack at the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi.<\/p>\n
He was in Kenya as a participant in the Storymoja Hay Festival, a four-day celebration of writing, thinking and storytelling, at which he was due to perform on the evening of his death.<\/p>\n
