{"id":89321,"date":"2015-02-07T15:30:01","date_gmt":"2015-02-07T15:30:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=89321"},"modified":"2015-02-07T23:13:30","modified_gmt":"2015-02-07T23:13:30","slug":"govt-to-install-solar-panels-in-new-buildings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=89321","title":{"rendered":"Gov&#8217;t to install solar panels in new buildings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ministry of Power is collaborating with some real estate agencies and the Ministry of Works and Housing to incorporate solar installations in various building projects.<\/p>\n<p>The move, according to the Communications Consultant at the Energy Ministry, Edward Bawa, forms part of measures to end the worsening energy crisis in the country.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;kI2SY48McwUma0P9HDLdHhuawDM6aVHx&#8221;]Some major stakeholders in the energy industry have suggested that <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/02\/01\/dumsor-govt-advised-to-provide-households-with-solar-panels\/#sthash.HKUBhVHo.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>government \u00a0provides<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>households with solar panels to help end the energy crisis Ghana is battling with.<\/p>\n<p>They are of the view that the current crisis can partly be attributed to government\u2018s inability to explore innovative ways of solving the crisis.<\/p>\n<p>However speaking on <strong>Citi FM\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0news analysis programme, <em><strong>The Big Issue<\/strong><\/em>, Bawa said government has resolved to adopt the solar panel policy to provide alternative source of energy for Ghanaians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do know that the Ministry of Power is collaborating with real estate agencies and the Ministry of Works and Housing to see how as part of the building acrichitecture , we could incorporate solar installation,\u201d he stated<\/p>\n<p>Bawa argued that the policy will be feasible and affordable, saying, \u201cif someone for example can afford to buy a house for a million Ghana cedis, a few more thousands to guarantee solar energy in that particular property will not be something that will deter people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He noted that government had already started implementing the policy in some regions in the country, adding that, government had installed over 2,000 solar panels in those areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we have done over the period since 2009 has been to go &#8230; to particularly the \u00a0inland communities and some communities in the North and provide solar installations for clinics, for schools etc.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For instance, if you were go to Krachie, if you were go to Affram plains, instead of using the grid power that is generated by the VRA&#8230;they use solar. As we speak now, we have done roughly over 2,000 installations in those areas.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Minister of Power, Kwabena Donkor earlier revealed that government will secure emergency power barges to rectify the challenge.<\/p>\n<p>Asked whether government had initiated moves to secure those barges, Bawa stated that, &#8220;we [government]are still working on most of the details that will bring these barges&#8230;there\u00a0are different groups who are working on different aspects of the project and hopefully we should be able to bring them in time to alleviate the situation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Marian Efe Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ministry of Power is collaborating with some real estate agencies and the Ministry of Works and Housing to incorporate solar installations in various building projects.
