Samsung’s top-of-the-line $1,500 NX1 mirrorless camera beast is getting downsized, sorta. Available in mid-March, the $799 NX500 shares much of the same DNA as the NX1, but in the\u00a0NX300’s smaller size.<\/p>\n

The NX500 doesn’t skimp on the specs. It has the NX1’s 28-megapixel BSI (backside-illuminated) APS-C image sensor with 9 frames per second (fps) continuous shooting, 4K (4,096 x 2,160 resolution) and UHD (Ultra High Definition; 3,840 x 2,160 resolution) video recording and improved Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.<\/p>\n

ISO also remains the same as the NX1 at 100-25600 (extendable to 51200).<\/p>\n

Aside from the 4K and UHD video recording, which should give you something to watch on 4K TVs and monitors, the NX500 can also compile high-res photos into UHD-quality time-lapses right in the camera.<\/p>\n

On the backside is a 3-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen that tilts down and flips up 180-degrees (for those selfies!). Up top is a hotshoe to attach an external flash that comes in the box.<\/p>\n

Shoppers looking for an all-new design language won’t find it on the NX500.<\/p>\n

The aluminum frame body is wrapped in leatherette, a.k.a. fake leather. I haven’t seen a real unit yet, but from the press shots, the NX500 looks classy.<\/p>\n

And since the NX500 is the successor to the NX300, it uses the same batteries. If you’re upgrading, you won’t need to buy new ones.<\/p>\n

Samsung’s launching the NX500 in three colors: Black, brown and white.<\/p>\n

One thing you won’t get in the box this time is a free copy of Adobe Lightroom. Samsung is no longer bundling the photo-editing software because Adobe has transitioned it as part of Creative Cloud.<\/p>\n
