{"id":88619,"date":"2015-02-05T07:14:35","date_gmt":"2015-02-05T07:14:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=88619"},"modified":"2015-02-05T08:46:51","modified_gmt":"2015-02-05T08:46:51","slug":"inmates-feared-dead-in-kumasi-prison-fire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=88619","title":{"rendered":"Inmates feared dead in Kumasi prison fire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An unconfirmed number of Kumasi Central inmates are feared dead after clashing with security operatives who prevented them from breaking jail.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;QpRZR3ghCXFYBpJB3kOfy0nl0UR5gRmC&#8221;]The inmates clashed with the Police, in an evacuation exercise during the fire outbreak in parts of the prison on Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n<p>Some of them hurled bricks at other dangerous objects and the security operatives, injuring about four Police officers in the process.<\/p>\n<p>Some inmates at the prisons reportedly tried to take adavantage of the incident and <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/02\/04\/fire-scare-kumasi-prisons-inmates-attempt-escape\/#sthash.UaEYYE9v.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>escape custody<\/strong><\/span><\/a> but they failed.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <strong>Citi New<\/strong>s, the Ashanti Regional Minster, Samuel Sarpong\u00a0said the team of Police and Military personnel were called in to restore order.<\/p>\n<p>He said though prisoners tried to \u201ctake advantage of the situation\u201d, \u201cthe Police were very swift and they have been able to contain the situation\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also stated that the inmates have been returned to their cells.<\/p>\n<p>Ina related development, the Public Relations Officer of the prison, ASP James Annan, has dimissed reports that the fire was set by inmates.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the fire started after a part of the building\u00a0was struck by lightning during a storm.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile three Prison officers at the Kumasi Central Prison are receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching after inmate hit them with unknown objects last night.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Marian Efe Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An unconfirmed number of Kumasi Central inmates are feared dead after clashing with security operatives who prevented them from breaking jail.
