{"id":88558,"date":"2015-02-05T05:30:27","date_gmt":"2015-02-05T05:30:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=88558"},"modified":"2015-02-05T11:54:59","modified_gmt":"2015-02-05T11:54:59","slug":"jb-danquah-played-titanic-role-building-ghana-kufuor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=88558","title":{"rendered":"JB Danquah played a \u2018titanic\u2019 role in building Ghana \u2013 Kufuor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ex-President John Kufuor has hailed the significant role the late J.B Danquah played for the establishment of Ghana as an independent state.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the 50th anniversary celebration of the death of JB Danquah, ex-President Kufuor said: \u201cJB Danquah irrefutably played a titanic role in the making of our nation that we are all proud to belong to today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;MPit0CRkww1hEICmbYdwqDgegCtS1QVX&#8221;]J.B Danquah was a member of the \u2018Big Six\u2019; a group that led the struggle for the independence of Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>He however died in detention without trial at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison on February 4, 1965.<\/p>\n<p>According to Kufuor, although the New Patriotic Party (NPP) sees itself as the rightful heirs to JB Danquah\u2019s political tradition, \u201chis role in the struggle for independence and the establishment of democratic process should always be remembered and honoured not only by our party but I will say by all of Ghana.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cWe are launching a formal, tradition and public laying to rest of the uniquely great man that began it all in this land that we now call Ghana\u2026 this thing should have taken place a long time ago but it is better late than never.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the same event \u00a0the flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo said \u00a0Danquah\u2019s struggles and even his death have not been in vain, adding that the memory of the late J.B. Danquah will continue to live on for as long as the nation Ghana lives.<\/p>\n<p>He commended J.B Danquah for giving \u201cour country its name Ghana after years of research into the history and traditions of the people of the Gold Coast.
