The Volta River Authority (VRA) has acknowledged that Ghana is facing serious power crisis as a result of accumulated problems which have remained unresolved over the years.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”4ChytTkNObL6yUX4fDf1pm3CidGkjsCS”]\u201cWe are in a crisis. Power is a problem in this country and it\u2019s an accumulated problem,\u201d said the head of corporate communication at VRA Samuel Fletcher.<\/p>\n
Ghana is currently struggling with power generation which has led to an intensified load shedding exercise.<\/p>\n
Electricity consumers are at their wits end as the government struggles to resolve the power generation challenges.<\/p>\n
Businesses and households have been adversely affected by the situation which has persisted for almost three years.<\/p>\n
The President has indicated that several ongoing power generation projects are underway to deal with the situation in the near future.<\/p>\n
Speaking on Citi FM’s<\/strong> News analysis and current affair program, The Big Issue<\/strong><\/em>, Mr. Fletcher was optimistic that despite the current challenges, the problem will soon be rectified.<\/p>\n He indicated that despite the failure of stakeholders in the energy sector to solve the accumulated power challenges over the years, \u201cthat doesn\u2019t mean we can\u2019t start solving it now.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe are working to solve the problem and I think what we need to do is to put ourselves in the shoes of the consumers,\u201d adding that \u201ceverybody is suffering including ourselves because it\u2019s so uncomfortable,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n Mr. Fletcher stressed that Ghana will \u201cget out of this problem and when we do, we will all have the effect.\u201d<\/p>\n He likened electricity to a mosquito saying, \u201celectricity is like a mosquito, it bites everybody \u2013 it doesn\u2019t bite only one person.\u201d<\/p>\n Mr. Fletcher was however unable to give a set date for which the power crisis will end.<\/p>\n \u201cWe will get out but let\u2019s face it \u2013 I can\u2019t claim to be one of the engineers on site; I\u2019m just a communicator who speaks for them so I get information from them and I tell so if I don\u2019t have it,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n By: Efua Idan Osam\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana
