The Orange Africa Cup of Nations Equatorial Guinea 2015 kicked off in the city of Bata on, 17th January, 2015.<\/p>\n
Samsung, a sponsor of Africa\u2019s most prestigious tournament, \u00a0has rolled out an initiative in support of youth football development called \u2018Dream Maker\u2019 as part of its \u2018I See Your Dreams\u2019 campaign.<\/p>\n
This CSR initiative officially commenced with a \u2018School Donation\u2019 handover ceremony at Kotobabi 3 and 4 Junior High Schools in Accra.<\/p>\n
Football has long been recognised as an important driver of social upliftment and development on the continent.<\/p>\n
As part of Samsung\u2019s ongoing commitment to football and developing solutions which make a real and sustainable impact on communities \u2013 the company sought to better understand the needs of communities and develop football at a school level.<\/p>\n
This engagement seeded the \u2018School Donation\u2019 programme in Zambia and Ghana during Orange AFCON 2015.<\/p>\n
Two schools in Accra were selected as the beneficiary of the \u2018School Donation\u2019 programme by Samsung based on the following criteria:<\/p>\n
Schools have 20+ soccer students that form part of soccer team.<\/p>\n
Schools that would benefit from the provision of sporting infrastructure and much needed equipment.<\/p>\n
Team players between the ages of 13 and 16 years old<\/p>\n
With an established football programme, Kotobabi 3 Junior High School and Katobabi 4 Junior High School required assistance in terms of sports infrastructure in order to further their efforts in the development of football at the school.<\/p>\n
Samsung provided the school with football gears such as training goal posts which were announced as part of an official handover at the school.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are honoured to have been selected. This donation from Samsung will allow us to further develop our football programme within the school and we hope to one day have one of our students competing in the African Cup of Nations tournament.\u201d<\/p>\n
