Ghana\u2019s Navy is leading an international force in search of a vessel suspected to be carrying stolen cargo from the ship hijacked by Nigerian Pirates.<\/p>\n
Ghanaian Security Services believe that the pirates managed to transfer the ship\u2019s cargo into another vessel prior to their arrest.<\/p>\n
Eight Nigerian pirates were arrested on Sunday<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>by the Eastern Naval Command in Tema for hijacking an oil vessel in Nigeria.<\/p>\n [contextly_sidebar id=”LCPiBx8NmJ6vlJZF0r36CoaU4iWDY7YB”]The vessel, MV Mariam, was carrying about 1,500 tonnes of crude oil at the time the pirates\u00a0hijacked it.<\/p>\n The pirates reporttedly turned the vessel around and entered the territorial waters of Ghana but a tracking device which had been fixed on the vessel enabled the owner to track it down.<\/p>\n The suspected pirates are currently in the custody of the Bureau of National Investigations.<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n The Director of public Relation of the Ghana Armed Forces, lieutenant Colonel Eric Aggrey- Quarshie who disclosed this to Citi News revealed that they have enlisted the help of other countries to help find the stolen cargo in the missing vessel.<\/p>\n “We got to the place and we realized that cargo on board the vessel had been transferred \u00a0into another vessel and so we had to alert our colleagues We have also alerted \u00a0the Togolese, Beninois and Nigerians to also join the search for the stolen cargo…”<\/p>\n \u00a0–<\/strong><\/p>\n By: Marian Efe Ansah\/citifmonline.com
