Public sector workers have called on President John Dramani Mahama to reject the amendments approved by the Parliament to the Pensions act 2008, Act 766.<\/p>\n
The workers are crying foul<\/strong> <\/a><\/span>over the amendments proposed by the Ministry of Employment, which they believe will cause a decrease in their\u00a0<\/span>tier-one pension funds.<\/p>\n [contextly_sidebar id=”gfqxCWtG4zKvqjnpcXvRHQXaXpKLj04W”]The Media Liaison Officer for the Forum of Public Sector Workers, Ernest Boateng told Citi News<\/strong>: “The government, through the Ministry of Employment, has gone to Parliament to reduce our percentage from a minimum of 50 percent to 37 .5 percent, and a maximum of 80 percent to 60 percent. That is going to make pensioners worse off.”<\/p>\n “The argument that the Minister added to the memorandum that followed the amendment was that SSNIT was now receiving a reduced percentage contribution of 11 percent and so by their calculation they have to reduce our pension rights in order to sustain SSNIT. And we have a different view that, that is not correct,” he stated.The Chairman of the Finance Committee in Parliament, Mr James Klutse Avedzi, had earlier\u00a0defended the amendment<\/strong><\/span><\/a> of the Pensions Act, arguing that it was in the best interest of workers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
