The Committee for Joint Action (CJA) has vehemently rejected accusations that it has become a dormant pressure group after the NDC \u00a0government came in 2009.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”1KRMt7xacbu97eUdl0ACETtszrYHmomo”]Some New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicators accused the pressure group known for its \u201cwahala\u201d demonstrations in the past, of being relatively silent in recent times.<\/p>\n
But addressing a news conference on Thursday, Convener of the group, Kwesi Adu insisted that the CJA still plays its rightful role as a pressure group.<\/p>\n
He said, \u201cfor some time now we’ve been aware of comments mostly from members of the New Patriotic Party about what they claim is the silence of the CJA on issues relating to petroleum prices increases and general hardships in the country.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said the \u201cNPP and their supporters should bow their heads in shame,\u201d for drawing such conclusions arguing that \u201cthe NPP cannot pretend that they are opposed to such decisions when they themselves did the same in 2002.\u201d<\/p>\n
He accused the last NPP government of worsening the petroleum pricing situation in the country when they were in power.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn 2007, petrol prices were increased in six different occasions. In 2008 alone, the NPP government increased fuel prices eight times; did CJA go on demonstration in response to each and all the occasions?\u201d Mr Adu asked.<\/p>\n
For his part, a leading member of the CJA, Kwesi Pratt Junior urged the NPP to desist from deceiving the public with what he terms \u201cpolitical propaganda\u201d on the petroleum issue.<\/p>\n
\u201cCompare their [NPP\u2019s] performance when it comes to petroleum price increases to what is happening now and there is a world of difference. Don\u2019t let us be deceived by political propaganda. Look at the real fact and when you look at the real fact, what happened under Kufour\u2019s administration with regards to petroleum price increases was terrible. The fact is that on one occasion the NPP administration increased petroleum prices by 90%. That\u2019s a fact,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
