{"id":8221,"date":"2014-03-24T13:23:25","date_gmt":"2014-03-24T13:23:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=8221"},"modified":"2014-03-24T14:16:04","modified_gmt":"2014-03-24T14:16:04","slug":"weve-stopped-using-monies-from-seized-accounts-eoco","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=8221","title":{"rendered":"We&#8217;ve stopped using monies from seized accounts \u2013 EOCO"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_8236\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8236\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/EOCO-BOSS1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8236\" alt=\"Mortey Akpadzi\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/EOCO-BOSS1.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"261\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8236\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mortey Akpadzi<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), has denied misusing funds from accounts of individuals and organizations it is investigating.<\/p>\n<p>But the organizations however admitted it used to engage in this practice when government subventions delayed.<\/p>\n<p>It was revealed at a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) sitting that EOCO had used funds from accounts seized from people it is investigating to run the organisation.<\/p>\n<p>This was during an interrogation of the Auditor General\u2019s report on state owned boards and cooperation\u2019s between 2010 and 2011.<\/p>\n<p>The Member of Parliament for Effutu (MP), Alex Afenyo Markin is also accusing EOCO of operating illegally and has threatened to drag the office to the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <strong>Citi News<\/strong> in an exclusive interview, the Executive Director of EOCO, Mortey Akpadzi, denied the allegations saying, the practice is not happening under his watch.<\/p>\n<p>He recalled that since EOCO was set up in 2010, \u201cnothing like that has happened and will ever happen at least, under my watch because by law, it\u2019s illegal to touch exhibits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Akpadzi however admitted that the practice used to exist before he took over explaining that such funds were tampered with when EOCO \u201cwas expecting government subvention and it wasn\u2019t coming, we will use it and when the subvention came, they will replenish it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He insisted it was against the law \u201cand so we will never touch it under any circumstances and it has never happened under my watch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He gave the assurance however that the practice will not happen again \u201cbecause we are we are putting in institutional measures to prevent it even after I leave.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Click on link below to listen to the EOCO boss<\/strong><br \/>\nhttps:\/\/soundcloud.com\/citi97-3\/eoco-denies-transferring-funds<\/p>\n<p>By: Efua Idan Osam\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), has denied misusing funds from accounts of individuals and organizations it is investigating.
