<\/p>\nWork has begun on the construction of an ultra-modern hostel facility for\u00a0the\u00a0Ghana Revenue Academy (Customs division) at Kpetoe in the Volta region.<\/p>\n
The project which was awarded in September 2014 to an Accra based construction firm, Maripoma Enterprise Limited is expected to be completed in 15 months.<\/p>\n
The male and female facility if completed would house a total 184 inmates.<\/p>\n
This according to Mr Wallace Kofi Akondor, Acting Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), who was \u00a0at the ground-breaking ceremony would alleviate the accommodation challenges bedeviling the academy.<\/p>\n

Mr Wallace Akondor explained that the academy does not have befitting facility to house personnel under training.<\/p>\n
He said the hostel facility forms part of the first phase of a 5 year housing project for the Academy which is estimated to cost about 10 million Ghana cedis.<\/p>\n
He added “our future plan is to provide housing for the staff, lecture halls and cafeteria.”<\/p>\n
The commissioner thanked the chiefs and people of Agortime Traditional area for supporting a project which was conceived over 40 years ago.<\/p>\n

He was however optimistic the facilities would elevate the Academy as one the best in the sub-region.<\/p>\n
On his part, the paramount chief of Agortime Traditional area Nene Nuer Keteku III \u00a0expressed gratitude to the Ghana Revenue Authority for fulfilling their promise of providing the facilities.<\/p>\n
He said the existence of the Academy in the Traditional area over years has led to the acceptance of Customs Officials working in the area as their own hence their readiness to support the activities of Customs.<\/p>\n
He however cautioned the citizens not to distract the project with “unnecessary litigation.”<\/p>\n
He said “every compensation pertaining to this 241.9 acre land has been duly paid so many years ago so anyone that attempts to distract the work of the developers would be seen as an intruder.”<\/p>\n
