{"id":80522,"date":"2015-01-08T13:17:11","date_gmt":"2015-01-08T13:17:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=80522"},"modified":"2015-01-08T13:18:25","modified_gmt":"2015-01-08T13:18:25","slug":"nigerians-fleeing-to-ghana-over-impending-elections-boko-haram","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=80522","title":{"rendered":"Nigerians fleeing to Ghana over impending elections, Boko Haram"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The heated political atmosphere in Nigeria due to the country\u2019s upcoming general elections in February has seen an influx of Nigerians into Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>Confirming this to <strong>Citi News,<\/strong> the President of the All Nigerian Community in Ghana, Moses Owaru said the influx of Nigerians into Ghana\u00a0over the past few weeks can also be attributed to the general security challenges facing the country.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;z6dJiXAWHEsBjfoSqrM49WcpWUTBDjYM&#8221;]\u201cNigerians are coming to Ghana; yes I agree that the rate has increased a little bit but the issue of security in Nigeria \u2013 the Boko Haram is also making people come to Ghana,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, many Nigerian students are also coming to Ghana to study at the various tertiary institutions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome students are also coming to Ghana so I wouldn\u2019t say that it\u2019s just because of the election that is why they are coming to Ghana,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<p>Nigeria will in February head to the polls to elect a new President\u00a0and the country is also battling with the insurgence of Islamist Militant group, Boko Haram whose activities claimed over 2,000 lives in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>These situation is believed to have contributed largely to the migration of some Nigerians into neighbouring countries in the West African sub-region including Ghana.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_18816\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18816\" style=\"width: 580px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/download10.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-18816 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/download10.jpg\" alt=\"Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan speaks to the media on the situation in Chibok and the success of the World Economic Forum in Abuja May 9, 2014. \" width=\"580\" height=\"386\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/download10.jpg 580w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/download10-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-18816\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mr. Owaru indicated that the security situation in Nigeria is likely to escalate during and after the elections which is why some Nigerians \u201cwish to come to Ghana to stay till the election is over.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He mentioned that since the Nigerian community in Ghana is expected to grow during this period, its leadership will \u201corganize programmes to sensitize both the contestants in Nigeria and the Nigerians who are living in Ghana and even those who are coming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/BOKO.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-70255\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/BOKO.jpg\" alt=\"BOKO\" width=\"624\" height=\"351\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/BOKO.jpg 624w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/BOKO-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 624px) 100vw, 624px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is to help them know how to comport themselves. They must live by the law and make sure they understand the environment they are coming in,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the influx of Nigerians into Ghana, the Director of Operations at the Ghana Police Service, COP John Kudalor told <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, the Police are adequately prepared to address any security challenge that may arise due to the impending Nigerian elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have put in place measures and patrolling. I am sure very soon, NADMO will get in touch with us.
