{"id":80011,"date":"2015-01-07T08:43:41","date_gmt":"2015-01-07T08:43:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=80011"},"modified":"2015-01-07T08:47:20","modified_gmt":"2015-01-07T08:47:20","slug":"court-to-rule-on-gnpc-injunction-case-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=80011","title":{"rendered":"Court to rule on GNPC injunction case today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Commercial Court Division of the High Court will today [Wednesday] rule on the injunction application<a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/11\/27\/three-npp-mps-sue-gnpc-over-700-million-loan\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong> filed by three Members of Parliament<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>seeking to stop the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) from going ahead to secure a 700 million dollar loan from the Deutche Bank of Germany.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;vyK22nPDKel4po5z2CBInuPsHjnejXGq&#8221;]The three MPs, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei and Samuel Atta Akyea are challenging the decision by the GNPC to side-step Parliament in their bid to secure the loan.<\/p>\n<p>The MPs are praying\u00a0the court to direct the GNPC to suspend any transactions relating to the procurement of the loan, at least until hearing of the substantive case is concluded.<\/p>\n<p>They officially filed the case on November 27, 2014 at the high court\u00a0and proceedings took off at Commercial Court \u2018A\u2019 on December 3,2014.<\/p>\n<p>Counsel for the MPs, Nana Asante Bediatuo, sought an interim injunction to restrain the GNPC from taking further steps in pursuit of the $700 million loan.<\/p>\n<p>However Lawyer for the GNPC, Tony Lithur opposed it saying,\u201d GNPC as a statutory institution is mindful of its obligations, and believes it has a strong case, and therefore would not do anything to undermine the case.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_38885\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38885\" style=\"width: 646px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Mr-Alexander-Mould.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-38885\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Mr-Alexander-Mould.jpg\" alt=\"GNPC Boss, Alexander Mould\" width=\"646\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Mr-Alexander-Mould.jpg 646w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Mr-Alexander-Mould-300x162.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 646px) 100vw, 646px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-38885\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">GNPC Boss, Alexander Mould<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In an earlier interview with <strong>Citi News<\/strong> in 2014 , the Chief Executive Officer of the GNPC, Alex Mould\u00a0defended the decision to secure the loan, saying \u201cI know some people have been mischievous, saying that GNPC is raising this money to give to government.
