He has successfully championed the lifting of Fifa&#8217;s ban on the hijab in women&#8217;s football and was also one of a number of officials who called for the publication of Michael Garcia&#8217;s report into allegations of corruption surrounding the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bids.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<p>Prince Ali said he had been encouraged to stand by colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The message I heard, over and over, was that it is time for a change,&#8221; the head of the Jordanian and West Asian Football Federations said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The world game deserves a world-class governing body &#8211; an international federation that is a service organisation and a model of ethics, transparency and good governance.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Fifa exists to serve a sport which unites billions of people from all over the world, people of differing and divergent political, religious and social affiliations, who come together in their enjoyment of &#8216;the world&#8217;s game&#8217;.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Uefa president Michel Platini is said to be &#8220;pleased&#8221; that Prince Ali has decided to enter the race and will attempt to get the Jordanian as many votes as possible in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, former England captain Gary Lineker described the way Fifa was running world football as &#8220;a farce&#8221; after the governing body became embroiled in allegations of World Cup bidding corruption.<\/p>\n<p>Ethics investigator Michael Garcia resigned last month in protest over the handling of his report into bidding for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups in Russia and Qatar.<\/p>\n<p>Fifa cleared both bidding teams of corruption following a series of allegations and said the tournaments would be staged in the countries chosen.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, BBC Sport revealed that secret talks between Fifa officials and Blatter, who has been president since 1998, took place over his future as leader of football&#8217;s governing body.<\/p>\n<p>Former diplomat Jerome Champagne, 56, who joined Fifa in 1999, is the only other challenger to have confirmed his intention to challenge for the presidency.<\/p>\n<p>Candidates wishing to declare their interest must do so before 29 January.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Source: BBC Sport<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fifa vice-president Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein will challenge incumbent Sepp Blatter for the leadership of world football&#8217;s governing body.
