{"id":79584,"date":"2015-01-06T05:33:43","date_gmt":"2015-01-06T05:33:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=79584"},"modified":"2015-01-06T10:52:40","modified_gmt":"2015-01-06T10:52:40","slug":"prisoners-to-grow-their-own-food","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=79584","title":{"rendered":"Prisoners to grow their own food"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Ghana Prisons Service has embarked on farming and other projects aimed at providing adequate food to feed inmates in prisons across the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;7B53Ir5gWOc3DkzNQgwuZcHkx3RInqs2&#8243;]This move, according to the prison service followed the inadequate subventions \u00a0from the government for the welfare of inmates<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Prisons Service Vitalis Aryeh, told <strong>Citi News<\/strong> that the service is strongly embarked in farming amongst others to feed the inmates and also aid exportation<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cApart from prisons at the center of cities and towns that don\u2019t have lands, any other prisons that have land around it is used by its inmates to farm,\u201d he disclosed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0Mr Aryeh bemoaned that the monies received by the prison service is\u00a0 inadequate, adding \u201c the service currently receives one cedi 80 pesewas which is used to cater for the three square meals daily for each inmate and it does little to cater for the nutritional value of the inmates,\u201dhe added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He disclosed that the services also seek external support to help in feeding the\u00a0 inmates adding \u201cwe also ask relatives of inmates and philanthropic organizations to come to the aid of the inmates with cooked food.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The PRO further added that the service had requested from \u00a0the government to acquire machinery to augment the efforts of some prisons at meeting the nutritional needs of the inmates.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNow we are asking government to give us more machinery to invade in commercial activities, because if we get more tractors we have vast lands to farm and feed the inmates an even export for the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Patricia Conteh\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ghana Prisons Service has embarked on farming and other projects aimed at providing adequate food to feed inmates in prisons across the country.
