{"id":79523,"date":"2015-01-05T17:46:02","date_gmt":"2015-01-05T17:46:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=79523"},"modified":"2015-01-05T17:47:13","modified_gmt":"2015-01-05T17:47:13","slug":"bukom-banku-ayitey-powers-corner-title-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=79523","title":{"rendered":"Bukom Banku in Ayitey Powers&#8217; corner for title win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Eccentric Ghanaian boxer, Michael Okine better known as Ayitey Powers is the new West Africa Light Heavyweight champion after stopping Benin&#8217;s Anicet Amoussou in their headline fight at Unity Park, Trantra Hill near Achimota in Accra last Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Powers, who surprisingly came into the ring led by age-long rival, Bukom Banku (Braimah Kamoko) dominated the fight before knocking out Amoussou in round 5 of their scheduled 10-rounder for the West Africa Boxing Union (WABU) title.<\/p>\n<p>Bukom Banku[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;pmHRcfoUv9liPo9KVNE0tkdhOWWs36wM&#8221;]It was a first victory for Powers since he defeated Musah Abubakari in Accra on June 1, 2012, a stretch that saw him lose all seven fights during the span, four of them in Australia as well as another against reigning Commonwealth Super Middleweight champion, Isaac Ekpo in Benin.<\/p>\n<p>Last Saturday&#8217;s fight was however a victorious one as Powers powered to the West Africa title under the tutelage of buddy Bukom Banku, the same man to whom Powers lost his last fight, a sellout in Accra on May 15 last year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sport.citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Ayitey-Powers-wins.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35852\" src=\"http:\/\/sport.citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Ayitey-Powers-wins.jpg\" alt=\"Ayitey-Powers-wins\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Bukom Banku trained me for this fight and he was a very good coach this evening and I thank him for his support which was important for my victory this evening,&#8221; an elated Powers told Allsports.com.gh.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I thank God for such a good start to the year and I am looking forward to more fights in 2015 because I still want to go for the world title.
