{"id":79199,"date":"2015-01-04T09:46:33","date_gmt":"2015-01-04T09:46:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=79199"},"modified":"2015-01-04T09:46:44","modified_gmt":"2015-01-04T09:46:44","slug":"north-korea-attacks-hostile-us-sanctions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=79199","title":{"rendered":"North Korea attacks &#8216;hostile&#8217; US sanctions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"story_continues_1\" class=\"introduction\">North Korea has described new sanctions imposed in response to a major cyber-attack against Sony Pictures as part of a hostile and inflammatory US policy.<\/p>\n<p>The US placed sanctions on three North Korean organisations and 10 individuals after the FBI blamed Pyongyang for the cyber-attack.<\/p>\n<p>North Korea praised the attack on Sony but denied any involvement in it.<\/p>\n<p>It came as Sony was about to release The Interview, a comedy about a plot to assassinate North Korea&#8217;s leader.<\/p>\n<p>Sony initially cancelled plans to show the film, before deciding to release it online and at a limited number of cinemas.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"cross-head\">&#8216;Inveterate repugnancy&#8217;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The US sanctions imposed on Friday are believed to be the first time the US has moved to punish any country for cyber-attacks on a US company.<\/p>\n<p>Announcing them, White House officials told reporters the move was in response to the Sony hack, but the targets of the sanctions were not directly involved.<\/p>\n<p>In response, the North&#8217;s state-run KCNA news agency on Sunday quoted a foreign ministry spokesman as saying: &#8220;The policy persistently pursued by the US to stifle the DPRK [North Korea], groundlessly stirring up bad blood towards it, would only harden its will and resolution to defend the sovereignty of the country.<\/p>\n<div class=\"videoInStoryB\">\n<p class=\"caption\">President Barack Obama signed an executive order on Friday allowing sanctions<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;The persistent and unilateral action taken by the White House to slap &#8216;sanctions&#8217; against the DPRK patently proves that it is still not away from inveterate repugnancy and hostility toward the DPRK.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>US sanctions were already in place over North Korea&#8217;s nuclear programme but analysts said the new sanctions were designed to further isolate the country&#8217;s defence industry.<\/p>\n<p>Those named in the sanctions were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Reconnaissance General Bureau, North Korea&#8217;s primary intelligence organisation<\/li>\n<li>North Korea&#8217;s primary arms dealer, the Korea Mining Development Trading Corporation (Komid)<\/li>\n<li>Korea Tangun Trading Corporation, which supports North Korea&#8217;s defence research<\/li>\n<li>Jang Song Chol, a government official said to be a Komid representative in Russia<\/li>\n<li>Kim Yong Chol, a government official said to be a Komid representative in Iran<\/li>\n<li>Ryu Jin and Kang Ryong, both Komid officials in Syria, according to the US<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>North Korea blamed the US for lengthy internet outages in the country last week but US officials have not commented on any possible American involvement.<\/p>\n<div class=\"caption body-width\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/news.bbcimg.co.uk\/media\/images\/75306000\/jpg\/_75306515_line976.jpg\" alt=\"line\" width=\"464\" height=\"2\" \/><\/div>\n<p><span class=\"cross-head\">Sony hack: The Interview saga<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Interview features James Franco and Seth Rogen as two journalists granted an audience with Mr Kim.
