{"id":78494,"date":"2014-12-31T16:18:57","date_gmt":"2014-12-31T16:18:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=78494"},"modified":"2014-12-31T16:18:57","modified_gmt":"2014-12-31T16:18:57","slug":"abduction-rise-ghana-police-reveals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=78494","title":{"rendered":"Abduction on the rise in Ghana &#8211; Police reveals\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Abduction in Ghana surged from 114 in 2013 to 120 in 2014, the\u00a0Accra Regional Police Commander, Christian Tetteh Yohunu has revealed.<\/p>\n<p>Abduction is the act of forcibly taking someone away against the person&#8217;s will.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;NZLxE4q643WlfcsgjzREi1PzLrm03Tf8&#8243;]He made the revelation at a press conference organized by the Police on Wednesday to speak about the major crime issue in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Ghana is not the only country battling with abduction, the challenge is even more severe in other African countries such as Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>About 200 young girls<a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/10\/23\/boko-haram-abducts-more-women\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong> were abducted<\/strong><\/span><\/a> early this year in Nigeria. There have since been calls for the release of those girls being held by an Islamist group, Boko Haram.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Yohonu also revealed defilement cases reduced in the year under review, dropping from 514 to 421.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, rape cases also reduced from 157 to 142 cases while armed robbery cases also declined from\u00a0 514 in 2013 to 421 in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Murder cases, according to him, also reduced from 45 in the year 2013, to 39 in 2014.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Police to establish land guard units<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Yohonu said the Police will re-establish the formation of the Land Guard Units.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the land guard phenomenon is still a thorny issue and the units will deal \u201cdrastically with any person or group of persons who are seen to be using weapons offensive weapons to guard or protect lands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Informant reward system still active<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Police Service assured that the informant reward system is still active and accessible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are edging the criminals who have reformed to join us and we are ready to work with them provided they are going to assist us with vital information.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Marian Efe Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Abduction in Ghana surged from 114 in 2013 to 120 in 2014, the\u00a0Accra Regional Police Commander, Christian Tetteh Yohunu has revealed.
