{"id":78336,"date":"2014-12-31T12:02:41","date_gmt":"2014-12-31T12:02:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=78336"},"modified":"2014-12-31T13:43:08","modified_gmt":"2014-12-31T13:43:08","slug":"ghana-saddled-negative-images-corruption-rawlings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=78336","title":{"rendered":"Ghana is saddled with &#8216;negative images&#8217; of corruption &#8211; Rawlings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former President Jerry John Rawlings has expressed concern over the rising spate of corruption in Ghana, saying, the country is saddled with very negative images about the canker.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ghana is saddled with some very negative images about corruption, some wrongly\u00a0perceived, but some convincingly accurate,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>He therefore suggested that &#8220;2015 must be a year when the government and people work hand in hand to steer the\u00a0affairs of the state in a direction that will confront corruption, tackle the economic\u00a0challenges and instill a sense of dignity and sanity in everything we do.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;sLwliRTtNz6rCxWoG4F7ArdDkDau0iHD&#8221;]The former President, in a press release to mark the 33rd anniversary of the 31st December Revolution on Wednesday dawn, also emphasized the need for various stakeholders in the country to &#8220;confront and tackle the destructive pattern of ethnicism and nepotism that has crept back into our national political life before it does the incurable damage and strangles social cohesion.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We cannot afford to be pessimistic.We all have a responsibility. Pointing fingers, but choosing to sit on the fence is\u00a0cowardly, defeatist and unpatriotic,&#8221; Rawlings added.<\/p>\n<p>He further admonished govermnment to listen to the woes of Ghanaians and never be oblivious to their challenges<\/p>\n<p>He believes that Ghana will make a headway in its political, economic and social development if Ghanaians &#8220;shirk the narrow-minded approach to all matters concerning the well-being of our\u00a0community and country.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There must be a heightened sense of nationalism and a genuine\u00a0desire to fight for the good of Ghana.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time the former President has raised concerns over corruption in the country.<\/p>\n<p>In August 2014, former President Jerry John Rawlings asked\u00a0 President Mahama show <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/08\/15\/rid-your-govt-of-corruption-rawlings-charges-mahama\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>a clear commitment to the fight against corruption<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>by addressing\u00a0 the unprecedented levels of corruption within his government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201d\u2026 . People with conscience are sometimes appalled by the extreme insensitivity displayed by some political appointees.
