{"id":78157,"date":"2014-12-30T18:00:06","date_gmt":"2014-12-30T18:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=78157"},"modified":"2014-12-30T15:15:43","modified_gmt":"2014-12-30T15:15:43","slug":"kotoka-intl-airport-to-be-decertified-if-md","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=78157","title":{"rendered":"Kotoka Int\u2019l Airport to be decertified if \u2026 &#8211; MD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Kotoka International Airport (KIA) risks losing it\u2019s status as a safe airport if measures are not put in place to reduce the movement of animals on the runways.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Managing Director of the KIA who disclosed this \u00a0in an interview with TV3, said, \u201cour airport could be decertified as a safe airport to fly in\u201d if the issue is not resolved.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;TPHizPnQNgVKueoyF0RrsI9a35x9ZuMY&#8221;]He said\u00a0the incident of stray animals has increased by a 100% since he took over office in 2013, adding that the invasion of animals has been largely because \u201chuman habitation has moved closer to the airport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The National Security Council Secretariat a few weeks ago\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/12\/15\/national-security-redemacates-kia-lands\/\" target=\"_blank\">declared the lands around KIA \u00a0as a security zone<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"color: #333333;\">to reduce encroachment but that n<\/span><\/span>otwithstanding, the situation still persist.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mr Asare lamented that the incident of the stray animals has been hindering their operations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said ideally, an airport is expected to have undeveloped lands 30 miles away from it explaining that\u00a0\u201cyou require additional space for the navigation aids that Civil Aviation needs to direct aeroplanes into the airport safely.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On\u00a0security\u00a0issues ,\u00a0Mr Asare said CCTV cameras are being installed at vantage points to beef up security at the airport.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said\u00a0the installation process is about 95% complete, adding that measure are also being put in place to sanitize\u00a0the VIP lounge.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Godwin Allotey Akweiteh\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"twitter-follow-button\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AlloteyGodwin\" data-show-count=\"false\">Follow @AlloteyGodwin<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Kotoka International Airport (KIA) risks losing it\u2019s status as a safe airport if measures are not put in place to reduce the movement of animals on the runways.
