Members of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly have kicked against a motion by the Member of Parliament for Okaikoi\u00a0Central, Patrick Boamah demanding the removal of the Accra Mayor, Alfred Vanderpuije.<\/p>\n

At a press conference in Accra the Assembly members pledged their unflinching support for the Mayor who they say has done a good job.<\/p>\n

According to the assembly members, Patrick Boamah has for the past two to three years refused to attend any of the Assembly meetings contrary to the regulations governing the local assembly administration and therefore has no locus to call for the mayor\u2019s removal.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the Assembly, Isaac Bright Assah in an interview on<\/span> Eyewitness News said \u201cthe its unfortunate for the MP [Patrick Boamah] to stand on the floor of Parliament and move a motion for the removal of the mayor from office.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

He added that the assembly members in support of the mayor decided to set the record straight. Mr. Assah<\/span> also stated that the assembly will resist any attempt to remove the mayor.<\/p>\n

The Member of Parliament for Okaikoi\u00a0Central, Patrick Boamah on Thursday filed a motion in Parliament seeking the removal of the Alfred Vanderpuje accusing<\/span> him of incompetence. Some Ghanaians have also demanded the removal of the Mayor for what they describe as poor management of the city.<\/p>\n

According to him [Mr Boamah] his call was based on principle, saying he only asked that the mayor be held responsible for all the disasters in the area, he presides over.”The buck stops at the desk of the mayor, that if engineers, building inspectors are being employed by the assembly and they are being paid and some of these things happen, then it means there is a lack of supervision…,” he noted.<\/p>\n

The MP also added that there is no way he can call for the removal of the mayor, ”…<\/span>those processes and motions have the powers of the members, the members [of the assembly] can carry that out; I am not just an ex-officio member of the assembly, I cannot go and move a motion for the removal of the mayor.”<\/p>\n

The AMA have been accused of negligence and lack of supervision over the construction of buildings across the city. Two high rise buildings have collapsed in the last two years igniting public outrage.<\/p>\n

The Mayor has come under heavy criticism following the recent collapse \u00a0of a hotel at Nii Boi Town which claimed one life.<\/p>\n
