President John Dramani Mahama has urged the Kusasis and Mamprusis to return to the inter-ethnic peace committee to continue dialogue in restoring everlasting peace in Bawku.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”HRFbIdfCr8dIDmQ98ITtz0rE7HVkRDaJ”]He explained conflicts impede development while\u00a0calling for peaceful co-existence among the ethnic groups in the area.<\/p>\n
President Mahama was speaking at the 27th annual Samanpiid festival celebrated by the people of the Kusuag Kingdom on the theme “promoting cultural development, the way forward.”<\/p>\n
He intimated that \u201cthe cost of conflict in Bawku has been huge on the loss of lives and the huge sums of money that government has had to invest in maintaining security in Bawku.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI am using the occasion of my presence to appeal and request all parties in the conflict to return to the interethnic peace committee and commit to restoring peace and stability to these great townships, lasting and sustainable peace can only come from people agreeing and accepting to work together for peace,\u201d he pleaded.<\/p>\n
For his part, the Paramount Chief of the Bawku Traditional Area, Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, said \u201cI wish to hereby assure our President and the other guests that Bawku is now very calm and safe for everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n
