A survey conducted by civil society organization promoting child rights in education, School for Life has revealed that close to one million Ghanaian children of school-going age do not have access to education.<\/p>\n

This came to light at the organization\u2019s 2014 awards ceremony where some deserving staff were honored for their meritorious services.<\/p>\n
Programmes Manager of School for Life, Alhaji Sulemana Osman Saaka said the nation risked attaining the Millennium Development Goal 2 which requires that every child should be in school by 2015.<\/p>\n
He admonished government to consider the situation as a major setback on the nation\u2019s development agenda and take immediate steps to solve it.<\/p>\n
Alhaji Saaka further called for deeper collaboration among stakeholders in the education sector to overturn the situation as best means of reducing illiteracy particularly in Northern Ghana.<\/p>\n
He said the School for Life will continue to support needy but brilliant pupils in the Northern Region to acquire higher academic laurels.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are only playing our complementary role the biggest responsibility is on government,\u2019\u2019 he bemoaned.<\/p>\n
On the Complementary Basic Education program (CBE), Alhaji Saaka said government needed to show enough commitment towards its attainment.<\/p>\n
He regretted that some staff of the School for Life in the middle of 2013 resigned for unknown reasons.<\/p>\n
This, Alhaji Saaka said was uncovered by a Technical Committee headed by Alhaji Hussein Harun, hence the establishment of the awards scheme.<\/p>\n
According to him, the awards ceremony aimed at boosting staff morale towards enhancing the School for Life\u2019s mission in 2015.<\/p>\n
The awardees were drawn from field workers, operations, accounts and finance departments.<\/p>\n
The awardees received valuables comprising a smock, brand new refrigerator and a citation and Karim Mohammed was adjudged the best worker.<\/p>\n
